ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (7-6-3, 5-4-3 NSIC) and Bemidji State (8-2-6, 6-2-4 NSIC) battled to a 0-0 draw in the Battle of "Priam the Pig" on Friday night at Sea Foam Stadium.
The Golden Bears will return to the pitch to face off with the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles for the second time this season at Sea Foam Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and Senior Day festivities will take place at halftime.
"I thought in the first half particularly, we created enough chances to probably win the game, so we are kicking ourselves that we didn't take those chances," commented head coach
Steve Bellis following the draw. "However, I think it was kind of a tale of two halves. We had to be defensively strong and make sure that we stayed organized, and we did." Bellis concluded with, "Bemidji is a good, well-coached team, but at the end of the night, we keep the pig and move on to the next one."
Concordia-St. Paul and Bemidji State played to a tie for the third time in their 27 games series. Tonight marks the first tie between the two clubs since 2012 where Brittany Kapala and Jess Bianchi each netted goals in the 2-2 draw at Sea Foam Stadium.
Jessi Jordan (4-6-2) collected her fourth shutout of the season. The junior goalkeeper finished with six saves, which is tied for the second-most that she has collected this season.
Brittany Bordson played a pivotal role in the midfield as she, along with
Tori Miller and
Belle Abruzzo, played the entire 90 minutes for the Navy and Gold.
The Golden Bears controlled the offensive advantage in the first half as they held a slight possession edge over the Beavers with over 53% of the possession time in the half.
Katie Anderson led the offensive attack with a trio of shots that included a shot on goal in the 39th and 40th minutes before being subbed out for
Nicole Moore, who contributed with a shot for the Golden Bears in her four minute stint on the pitch.
The Beavers flipped the script in the second half as they outshot the Golden Bears 13-2 with five of their attempts on goal. Sylve Waters led Bemidji State with a pair of shots on goal, while
Sydney Manthana added a CSP best two shots on goal. However, the CSP defense held strong down the stretch as Jordan collected her final save of the game in the 89th minute and the final attempt from BSU sailed wide left in the final minute to secure the 0-0 draw.
