RECAP OF THE WEEK
The Golden Bears split games on the road last week after dropping a last second heartbreaker to the University of Mary Marauders, then bouncing back with a one goal victory against the Minot State Beavers on Sunday.

Game One: CSP 1, UMary 2
Concordia struggled at times in the match to get the offense moving tonight as Mary outshot them, 10-4. In addition, CSP committed 14 fouls compared to the Marauders who had only five.

Katie Anderson made history in the Navy and Gold after passing Rachel Vitense as the all-time leader in goals scored (30) with her then eighth goal of the season. The San Diego native led the Golden Bears with three shots and added their lone two shots on goal in the contest.

Corynn Grabau extended her point total to 12 with her second assist of the season, while Mackenzie Leibiger added a shot for CSP in her 82-minute outing.

Jessi Jordan (4-6-1) made her 11th start in goal for the Golden Bears. The junior collected six saves and faced 10 shots. Tori Miller and Belle Abruzzo continue to rack up minutes as they each went the full 90 minutes on the pitch.

The two clubs battled for the first 45 minutes as the score remained 0-0 going into the halftime break. Anderson led the Golden Bears with their lone pair of shots in the first, while Jordan collected four saves with the latter coming in the final minute. Mary was able to create more chances in the first half, outshooting the Golden Bears by four shots and forcing a couple of corners.

In the second half, after the two teams remained scoreless at the hour mark of the match, Concordia found offensive momentum after Anderson drove in the recorded-breaking goal from an assisted pass by Grabau in the 62nd minute. However, late heroics from Mo Malone, who scored a penalty kick in the 88th minute, and Ava Vizenor, who scored the game-winner in the final minute, propelled UMary to the 2-1 comeback victory.

Game Two: CSP 1, MISU 0
Concordia claimed their third shutout win against the Minot State Beavers in the 12-game series in a chippy contest that saw seven yellow cards. The Golden Bears held a slight offensive advantage with a 12-8 advantage in shot attempts.

Anderson added to her historic career in the Navy and Gold after scoring her sixth goal in the last four games and ninth total goal of the season with the game-winner in the opening half. In addition, the senior captain moved into a tie for second in all-time points with Arielle Stimson (2009-12) after extending her career total to 71 points with 31 goals and nine assists.

Defender Abruzzo added her fourth assist of the season on the game-winning goal for the Golden Bears. The sophomore, along with fellow defender Tori Miller, went the full 90 minutes on the defensive side of the pitch.

Jordan (4-6-1) made her 12th start in goal for CSP but was forced to exit due to injury after collecting the first save of the match. Kayla Matuzak (3-0-1) collected her third win of the season with a trio of saves after stepping in the second minute of the game.

In the opening minute of the match, Minot State's Illiana Rivera found a lane to the goal but was denied by starting goalie Jordan. However, the save came with consequences as Jordan was injured during the play. Matuzak stepped in the box for the fifth time this season and collected a save of her own in the first half.

Later in the first half, after a shot from Sammy Ponsonby was punched out of the upright, Abruzzo responded with a well-placed corner kick that led to Anderson's ninth goal of the season in the 19th minute. For the remainder of the physical first half, CSP controlled the pitch and held the Beavers to just one shot that was gathered by Matuzak.

After the Beavers were the aggressors to open the second half with a shot from Anabel Noches in the 53rd minute, the Golden Bears flipped the script and frustrated the MISU defense with a pair of on-goal shots from Sammy Ponsonby and a shot on goal from Sydney Manthana, leaving the Beavers without a shot attempt for the next 13 minutes.

In the final 15 minutes of action, Anderson added the final shot on goal in the 80th minute and Clare Snapko fired off the last chance for Concordia in the 81st. Matuzak sealed the game with her second save of the half in the 89th minute as the Golden Bear held on to take the match, 1-0.

SEASON-LEADERS
Anderson had an impressive showing last weekend that saw her become the Golden Bears' all-time leader in goals scored after netting her eighth goal of the season against UMary on Friday to extend her career total to 30, which is now 31 after she netted her ninth goal of the season against Minot State. The San Diego native has been one of the best forwards in the conference as she leads the NSIC points with 22, is tied for first in goals scored with nine, has the most shots with 67 and shots on goal with 31. In addition, the senior captain has added four assists during her 1148 stint on the pitch in the Navy and Gold.

In addition to her defensive excellence, she has netted a pair of goals against Minnesota Crookston and MSU Moorhead. For the first time in her career, Miller was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week (9/25) following an impressive showing against MSU Moorhead and Northern State.

Grabau is currently second on the team and tied for eighth in the NSIC in points this season with 12. The junior forward has netted five goals, which ranks tied for seventh in the entire NSIC. She has also spread the ball around well in scoring chances with a pair of assists over the last two weekends of action.

HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND BSU
The two programs have met a total of 26 times dating back to October 17, 1999, and the Golden Bears hold a 10-14-2 all-time record against the Beavers. Bemidji State started the series off strong with a 3-0-1 record in the first four games, but the Golden Bears answered strong with back-to-back wins at old Concordia Field in St. Paul in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. After dropping two consecutive matchups to BSU, CSP upset the eventual NSIC Conference Tournament Champions on the road last season. K. Anderson netted the game-winner in the 71st minute for the Golden Bears as they were able to hoist "Priam the Pig" after the hard-fought victory.
