MARSHALL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (6-5-2, 4-3-2 NSIC) used a pair of early goals to cruise to a 2-0 road win at Southwest Minnesota State (3-8-1, 3-5-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
The Golden Bears will take their streak of two consecutive wins back on the road next weekend as they travel to UMary on Friday and Minot State on Sunday.
"We felt we had to take advantage of the wind in the first half and thankfully did that with two great goals," said head coach
Steve Bellis. He added. "The wind made the game a little scrappy at times, so we are delighted to take the three points on the road, especially with another shutout."
It was a historic day for senior
Katie Anderson as she tallied her 29
th career goal, tying Rachel Vitense for the program record. Her three points also moved her into a tie for third in school history with 67 points. She made it four goals and a staggering 10 points in the past two games as she scored the opener and assisted on the second goal while she brings her total to seven goals and four assists on the year.
CSP pushed hard in the opening 45 minutes as they fired eight of their 12 shots before the break, including seven of their shots on goal. They also limited the Mustangs to just two shots (one on goal) in the first half before maintaining the clean sheet on SMSU's six shots (two on goal) in the second half.
Junior
Jessi Jordan stopped all three attempts on net as she collected her third shutout of the season, lowering her goals against average to 1.05 as she picked up her fourth win.

Corynn Grabau continued her strong run of form as she scored for the second straight game and third time in five as she moved her season total to five goals. Senior
Tori Miller added her first assist of the year to give her five points in 13 games.
SMSU's Kenna Conley made six saves on eight shots on goal in the loss.
Concordia opened the scoring on the first shot attempt as
Katie Anderson found the back of the net on a stunner of a free kick in the eighth minute. Lining up from 35 yards out, Anderson fired a shot over the outstretched arms of the keeper and off the crossbar before the ball spun and nestled into the far corner of the net.
After a
Belle Abruzzo shot was pushed wide to set up a corner kick, she lofted a cross in that found the head of Anderson, who forwarded it on to Miller, who headed it over to Grabau, who headed it into the back of the net from point blank range for an impressive team goal in the 12
th minute to double the lead.
Concordia continued to get the better of the play throughout the rest of the half before taking their 2-0 advantage into the locker room.
After the break, Jordan made her second save of the contest in the 70
th minute before making her third and final save 10 minutes later in the 80
th minute to secure the clean sheet.
