CSP soccer falls on the road to Winona State 2-1

Golden Bears return to action on Sunday at noon against Upper Iowa

WINONA, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul soccer (4-4-2, 4-2-1 NSIC) fell 2-1 on the road to the Winona State Warriors (5-2-3, 3-1-3 NSIC) on Friday night at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Coach Steve Bellis stated, "We came across a very hard-working and stubborn Winona State team tonight. All credit to them on their performance."

He added, "We created enough chances via set pieces to score and failed to capitalize, but we will rebound quickly."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors shot out of a cannon to begin the match, as an assist from Ellie Wardell inside the box set up Grace Seim for the first goal of the match inside of a  minute.

The Golden Bears responded with a goal of their own in the eighth minute after Leah Engh was able to notch her first goal of the season off a corner kick assist from Sophie Pawlyshyn.

Katie Anderson attempted to spark the Golden Bear offensive attack early in the second half with four shots (two on goal) in the first 10 minutes of the half but was not able to sneak a shot past the Warriors' keeper.

Winona State would regain the lead after Sarah Strating was able to find the goal in the 68th minute.

Tori Miller added her first shot of the season three minutes later, but it would be collected by the Warriors' keeper near the top of the goal.

Jessica Timpane and K. Anderson would have shots on goal in the final five minutes, but neither player was able to find the net, as the Warriors would hold on for the 2-1 victory.
