CSP soccer used five goals in the second half to defeat UIU 5-1

Nikki Anderson scored a pair of goals and Belle Abruzzo added her first career goal

FAYETTE, Iowa. - Concordia-St. Paul soccer (5-4-2, 4-2-1 NSIC) bounced back with a 5-1 win on the road against the Upper Iowa Peacocks (2-6-3, 1-3-3 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Harms-Eicheid Stadium.
 
The Golden Bears used five goals in the second half to erase a 1-0 deficit at halftime to defeat the Upper Iowa Peacocks. Nikki Anderson led the Golden Bears with a pair of goals and Belle Abruzzo added her first career goal for CSP.
 
"After a bumpy start, we settled into a good rhythm and created multiple chances to get the win. It's nice to bounce back strong," Steve Bellis stated after today's victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Bears struggled on the offensive side of the ball with only five shots in the first half. Katie Anderson and Sophie Pawlyshyn were the only Golden Bears to have shots on goal.
 
The Peacocks were able to strike first with a goal in the ninth minute by Nora Nouhaili with an assist from Alex Garcia, giving the Peacocks the 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
 
The Golden Bears were able to find a rhythm early in the second half with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes by Nikki Anderson. Her first goal occurred in the 55th minute with an assist coming from Abby Kloiber. The second goal gave CSP the lead in the 59th minute off an assist from Sophie Pawlyshyn.
 
The Golden Bears nearly netted their third goal of the match a couple of minutes after their second goal, but a goal from K. Anderson was taken off the board following a long debate by the officials that led to an offsides call.
 
Freshman Belle Abruzzo added her first career goal in the 79th minute of the match, as she was able to sneak the ball through heavy traffic in the goalie box.
 
 Corynn Grabau netted the fourth goal for the Golden Bears in the 82nd minute off an assist from Brittany Bordson.
 
K. Anderson recorded the final goal of the match in the 88th minute off Bordson's second assist of the match, and the Golden Bears would go onto win the game by a final score of 5-1.
 
Harper Smoot, Tori Miller and Haley Rudebusch anchored the Golden Bear defense, holding the Peacocks to three shots and scoreless in the second half.

The Golden Bears will remain on the road next week, as they will travel to Duluth to take on the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Friday at 6 p.m. and to St. Cloud on Sunday to take on the St. Cloud State Huskies at 1 p.m.
