RECAP OF THE WEEK
The Golden Bears moved into a tie with UMary for second place in the conference standings after finishing the week 1-0-1.
On Friday night, the Golden Bears returned home to Sea Foam Stadium against the Northern State Wolves in a battle between the third and fourth teams in the conference standings.
After a lackluster offensive effort by both teams in the opening 10 minutes of the match,
Katie Anderson scored a penalty kick after a Wolves defender was called for a handball inside the box.
The Wolves responded with a penalty goal 32 seconds later, as Megan Fastenau avoided a solid diving effort by CSP keeper
Ashlyn Waldon on the far left side of the goal.
Tori Miller and
Harper Smoot both saw all 90 minutes of the match, helping the Golden Bears shut out the Wolves in the second half.
The Golden Bears had three different players score in their winning effort against the MSUM Dragons on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Bears began the match with a quick offensive attack, as K. Anderson netted the first goal in the match off an assist from Smoot from a corner kick in the fifth minute of play.
Eight minutes later, the Dragons found an equalizer with a goal from Jensen Siedel off an assist by Lilly Johnson.
CSP would regain the lead in the 38th minute after
Nikki Anderson was able to score her first goal of the season.
Clare Snapko earned her first career goal in the 69th minute after she was able to sneak past the defense and find a perfectly placed cross from
Sophie Pawlyshyn.
K. Anderson added the final goal of the contest with her second goal of the match in the 88th minute.
Miller and
Brittany Bordson helped anchor the Golden Bears' defense, as they held the Dragons to only five shots in the contest and a possession time of 36 percent for the game.
SEASON LEADERS
K. Anderson leads the teams and is second in the conference with 13 points. The junior leads the conference with 46 shots and is second in the conference with 20 shots on goal. She sits in second place in the NSIC with six goals and moved into a tie with Amanda Olsen for fourth place in all-time goals in CSP history with 21.
Pawlyshyn is second on the team with six points. The junior midfielder leads the NSIC with four assists this season and moved to 12th all-time as Golden Bear. She has recorded 17 shots (nine on goal) in 605 minutes of play. Her lone goal of the season came against Wayne State (9/11).
N. Anderson has three points on the season. The junior has recorded 18 shots (eight on goal) in eight games this season. She recorded the game-winning goal against MSUM (9/25) and an assist against UMC (9/16).
Captain
Tori Miller has seen the field the most for the Golden Bears this season with 762 total minutes in her nine starts this season.
Waldon is currently 10th in the NSIC with 23 saves from her eight starts in goal for the Golden Bears this season. She holds a 4-3-1 (.054) record and has a 0.933 goal against average, which is sixth-best in the NSIC.
HISTORY BETWEEN CSP AND WSU
The two programs have met a total of 29 times dating back to September 29, 1999, and the Golden Bears hold a 6-23 all-time record against the Warriors. The Warriors won the inaugural match 8-0. The Golden Bears found the win column for the first time in the series with a 1-0 win at Concordia Field in 2007. However, Winona State was victorious in the next 11 games, giving them the longest winning streak in the series. CSP has begun a winning streak of their own by winning the previous four matches, including a 2-1 win a year ago.
Corynn Grabau scored a goal and Pawlyshyn was credited with an assist in the last year's match in St. Paul.
ABOUT THE WARRIORS
Winona State posted a 4-12-1 (3-11-1 NSIC) record in the 2021 campaign and was picked to finish 9th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 101 total points.
The Warriors are currently 4-2-3 (2-1-3 NSIC) this season and are currently in a tie for seventh place in the conference standings.
WSU began the season with a pair of non-conference wins against Nebraska-Kearney and East Central University, before suffering their first loss of the season to Parkside 1-0 on the road in the non-conference finale.
The Warriors would open conference play with a 1-0 win over the Sioux Falls Panthers, with the goal coming in the 74th minute of play.
They would conclude the opening week with a tie with Southwest Minnesota State, as both teams scored in the first half and could not find the goal for the remainder of the match.
They suffered their first defeat in conference play to St. Cloud State 2-0. The Huskies added both of their goals in the first half and completed the shutout.
Winona bounced back two days later with a 3-1 win over Minnesota Duluth. The Warriors used a pair of goals in the first half and the game-winner in the 80th minute.
The Warrior's last two matchups have seen them tie Minot State 1-1 and UMary 0-0.
Riley Harmon is the play to watch for the Warriors. She sits in a tie for third in the conference with four goals this season.

The Golden Bears won the inaugural match of the series 2-0 at Concordia Field and would go on to win the next two games. The Peacocks won their first game of the series in 2007 after claiming a 1-0 win in double overtime. The Golden Bears are 2-0-1 in the last three matchups, including a 4-0 win a season ago. Pawlyshyn scored a pair of goals and had an assist in last year's match. Grabau and
Abby Kloiber also found the board with goals, while
Sammy Ponsonby collected an assist.
ABOUT THE PEACOCKS
Upper Iowa posted an 8-9-0 (6-9-0 NSIC) record in the 2021 campaign and was picked to finish 14th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 61 points.
The Peacocks are currently 2-4-3 (1-2-3 NSIC) this season and are 11th in the NSIC standings.
UIU opened the season in non-conference play against McKendree in the NSIC/GLVC Crossover with a 2-1 loss but bounced back with a 1-0 win over Rockhurst. They concluded conference play with a 1-0 loss to Truman State.
The Peacocks used a goal in the 70th minute to defeat Southwest Minnesota in the conference opener.
They would play to a 0-0 tie with the Sioux Falls Panthers on the road in a game that saw the Peacocks outshoot the Panthers 8-to-5.
UIU dropped their first conference match of the season 3-1 to Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs used a goal in the first half and two more in the second half to secure the victory.
The next two games would see the Peacocks tie the St. Cloud State 1-1 and UMary 2-2.
Their last time out, the Peacocks fell at home to Minot State 1-0. The Beavers scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute of the match and held on for the remainder of the match.
Before they faceoff with the Golden Bears, the Peacocks will play the defending NSIC Champion Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday afternoon. Kickoff from Fayette is scheduled for 3 p.m.
