First career goal from Cannady helps CSP to a 3-1 victory over WSC

CSP soccer claims first victory of the season over 3-1 over Wayne State

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Golden Bears (1-3-1, 1-1-0 NSIC) picked up their first win of the season over the Wayne State Wildcats (0-4-1, 0-2-0 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Seafoam Stadium.

Coach Steve Bellis stated, "Today was kind of a tale of two halves. We didn't quite show up in the first half and weren't at our technical best, so that was kind of disappointing. But in the second half, we kind of showed what we've got, created some great chances, and ultimately took the chances that we created."

Jada Cannady, Sophie Pawlyshyn, and Corynn Grabau successfully found the net for the Golden Bears in the match. Cannady's first career goal in the 39th minute proved to be an important turning point for CSP, as the equalizer gave the Golden Bears momentum heading into the break. Pawlyshyn added a goal in the 55th minute to give the Golden Bears the lead. Grabau added the final goal three minutes later for the Golden Bears.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Bears began the game with a quick offensive approach, as Katie Anderson fired off three shots (one on goal) in the first four minutes of the match.

Wayne State would strike first with a goal from Haley Hoffman that was assisted by Cleo Johnson in the 26th minute.

After a shot by Sydney Manthana led to a corner kick in the 49th  minute, Cannady scored the Golden Bears' first goal of the contest on a header off a corner kick by Harper Smoot.

The Golden Bears would break the tied in the 55th minute when Pawlyshyn was able to find the goal from a perfect pass from K. Anderson to set up a one-on-one battle with the Wildcats goalie.

The Golden Bears widened their lead in the 58th minute after Grabau scored the third goal of the match for CSP off an assist from Pawlyshyn.

Clare Snapko and Sammy Ponsonby each tested the Wildcat's keep with on-goal shots in the 70th and 71st minutes, and Abby Kloiber added the last shot on goal for the Golden Bears in the 77th minute.
