CROOKSTON, Minn. - The Golden Bears (2-3-1, 2-1-0 NSIC) picked up their second straight victory on the road against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (1-5-0, 0-3-0 NSIC).
Coach Steve Bellis stated after the win, "A great result from today's match. We created enough chances to put the game beyond any doubt". He continued, "Even when Crookston proved stubborn at times, we remained patient."
Sammy Ponsonby added her first goal of the season and Katie Anderson moved into a tie for fifth all-time with Jordan Rowan-Stafford in career goals for the Golden Bears. Abby Kloiber, Nikki Anderson and Sophie Pawlyshyn also earned points with their assists in the match.
"Sammy's goal was a quality one and she's worked hard to get one.", Bellis stated.
"(Katie Anderson) Ando found the net from a great corner from Pawlyshyn and I'm happy for her to keep breaking records and long may it continue to happen.", Bellis added.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Bears started quickly with their first shot of the contest coming from Haley Rudebusch in the third minute of play.
CSP scored their first goal of the when match when Ponsonby netted her first goal of the season off of a double assist by Kloiber and N.Anderson in the seventh minute.
Jillian Nelson, Nikki Anderson, K.Anderson and Sophie Pawlyshyn would all add shots on goal for the Golden Bears, who would end up outshooting the Golden Eagles 12-to-1 (five on goal) in the first half.
In the 77th minute, K. Anderson used a header off a corner kick from Pawlyshyn to extend the Golden Bears' lead to 2-0.
UMC would add their lone shot on goal in the 81st minute, but Golden Bears Goalie, Jessie Jordan, would collect it in the bottom right corner of the goal to secure the shutout for CSP.
Corynn Grabau added the Golden Bears' final shot on goal in the 87th minute.

The Golden Bears will look for their third straight win of the season when they travel to take on the Bemidji State Beavers on Sunday. Kickoff from BSU Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
