Golden Bears snap skid with big road win

Concordia tops Upper Iowa 23-2 in first-ever meeting between the programs

FAYETTE, Iowa - In the first meeting between the two programs who call the Northern Sun (NSIC) their home conference, Concordia-St. Paul (5-8, 1-3 GLIAC) secured a 23-2 victory over Upper Iowa (0-6, 0-4 GLIAC) on Saturday evening at Harms-Eischeid Stadium.

The win snaps a six game losing streak for Concordia-St. Paul, producing their first GLIAC victory of the year. Concordia returns home next weekend to Sea Foam Stadium, hosting #24 Davenport on Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m. before hosting #11 Grand Valley State on Sunday, April 10 at 11 a.m.

Fourth year sophomore Molly Moynihan set three individual records in the victory, topping the program records for single game points (11) and assists (7) while topping Sara McNicoll's 2019 single season record of 20 assists, moving to 26 on the year in 13 games. Moynihan also had three draw controls and two ground balls.

Sophomore Hailey Hartlage also netted four goals and added an assist for a five point day.

Five Golden Bears scored their first career goals in the victory: Paige Nicklaus (2), Alexia Zeller, Anna Fisher, Meghan McGowan and Lily Walesheck.

Overall, 12 different Golden Bears scored in the game and 14 players factored into either a goal or an assist.

Maddy Huebner started and played the first half in the cage, allowing just one Peacock goal, leaving with a 16-1 lead. Candace McDole finished the outing, allowing just one goal, as well. 

The Golden Bears handily won the draw 17-8 as Mary Keating had four draw controls to lead the team with five different players contributing on the draw. CSP also had 31 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers compared to UIU's 13 and five, respectively.
