Concordia looks to finish strong in GLIAC play

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Wednesday, Concordia-St. Paul heads to Marquette, Michigan to face Northern Michigan in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) contest at the Superior Dome at 4 p.m. (central).

Concordia (6-9, 2-4 GLIAC) has two more Great Lakes conference games to go, starting with the Wildcats (8-4, 2-2 GLIAC) before returning home for senior day on Friday, April 22 for a 6 p.m. contest against Upper Iowa (0-8, 0-6 GLIAC) at Sea Foam Stadium.

The Golden Bears bounced back from a six game midseason losing streak in a big way two weeks ago, defeating the Peacocks 23-2 on the road in Fayette, Iowa and returned to the Concordia Dome last weekend, score one of the biggest wins of the season, a 15-12 triumph over Davenport on Friday night.

Concordia and Northern Michigan met earlier in the season, with NMU edging Concordia 16-11 in a game that was a 1-goal margin at the end of the third quarter before the Wildcats pulled away with a 5-0 run to start the fourth.

The teams have played seven common opponents this season, with Concordia holding a 5-4 record (playing Davenport & Grand Valley twice) while NMU is 3-4 against the same opposition, with the differences between Concordia splitting against Davenport compared to NMU's 0-1 mark, and CSP picking up a win over Rockhurst while NMU fell to the Hawks.

Concordia is led by the reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, senior Delaney Davidson with 41 goals and 51 points, while fourth year sophomore Molly Moynihan has matched Davidson's 51 points on 23 goals and a school-record 28 assists. Freshman Maddy Seifert has produced 43 points and is second on the team with 36 goals with a team-high 22 caused turnovers.

CSP netminders Candace McDole and Maddy Huebner each have a .419 save percentage, with Huebner leading the team with a 9.91 goals against average while McDole has a team-high 99 saves against 321 total shots faced.

The Wildcats are led by Madeline Bittell's 50 points, 38 goals and 12 assists, also leading the team with 51 draw controls while the defense is sparked by Lauryn Rygiel's 27 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls. In the cage, Aliyah Smukala has started 11 games, making 39 saves against 171 shots faced, carrying a .295 save percentage and 13.24 goals against average while Cam Stilson has appeared in eight games with one start, holding a 9.00 goals against average and a .344 save percentage.
