AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Concordia-St. Paul (8-1) pushed its early season winning streak to eight games on Sunday afternoon, claiming a 14-0 win over Chestnut Hill (0-2) in five innings at the Auburndale Complex on an 85-degree day in central Florida.
Concordia's second game of the day against Northwood University was canceled by THE Spring Games administration. The Golden Bears will return to the diamond on Monday afternoon for a pair of games against Ashland and Concord in Winter Haven at 2:45 and 5 p.m. central time.
Sunday's spring trip opener featured
Grace Beseman going 3-for-4 with three RBIs from the third spot in the lineup while the 8-9 spots in the lineup,
Taylor Griffin and
Cam Veenbaas, each had RBI doubles. Leadoff hitter
Clara Heislen reached all four of her plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with a pair of runs, a pair of RBIs and three walks.
Starting pitcher
Bryanna Olson picked up the win, working three shutout innings with six strikeouts, allowing two hits and a walk.
Kristi Pilz worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning and
Afton Zemke made her debut in the circle, pitching a scoreless fifth inning.
Concordia racked up 15 hits to score their 14 runs, plating seven runs on eight hits in the third inning when they sent 12 batters to the plate. They scored three runs without a hit in the first inning.
