EARLY SEASON RANKING RECOGNITION & TOP-25 NOTES
The Golden Bears have received consideration in national polls for three straight years, being one of the programs "receiving votes" in four straight polls this season. The string was snapped in the latest IWLCA Division II Top-25 Coaches' Poll released this week as CSP's losing streak hit six games, but the program's ability to stay in consideration is a nod to the strength of schedule CSP has faced and their competitiveness in those games against topflight squads.
The Golden Bears were also featured in the "also considered" section of the Nike/US Lacrosse Top-20 Division II rankings for four consecutive weeks from February 14 to March 7.
CSP had been featured in both polls the previous two years, and has eight games on the current schedule against IWLCA Top-25 programs, giving the team a chance to score some nationally-ranked victories throughout the season. So far, CSP is 0-6 against ranked teams in 2022 with two remaining, home rematches with #11 Grand Valley State and #24 Davenport in league play next weekend (April 8 & 10).
The Golden Bears are 1-22 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents, scoring their first win over a ranked team on February 21, 2020 at home against #14 Colorado Mesa (15-4). They've been within five goals in the final margin five times including twice this year. CSP has dropped its last 10 against ranked opponents.
