Volleyball has six named All-NSIC

Mattson, Mulvihill, Schmidt and Starkey named First Team while Andersen and Brady named Second Team

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) released the 2022 Volleyball All-NSIC Teams and the Concordia-St. Paul had Katie Mattson, Jasmine Mulvihill, Emma Schmidt and Teagan Starkey named to the First Team as well as Sophia Andersen and Kennedy Brady named to the Second Team.
 
The Golden Bears matched their program record set back in 2008 with six All-NSIC picks. CSP also extended their streak to 20 consecutive seasons with at least four all-conference picks as they have reached that mark every season since 2001.
 
#9 Katie Mattson (MB/RS, 5-10, Jr., St. Croix Falls, Wis. / Luck HS)
  • All-NSIC First Team
  • NSIC Defensive Player of the Week (9/19)
  • Expected to be three-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence
  • Ranks second in the NSIC with a .408 hitting percentage in conference play
  • Ranks fifth in the league with 1.14 blocks per set in NSIC matches
  • Sits in fifth on the team with 2.31 kills per set in league play
  • Has collected double figures in kills in five conference matches
  • Has put up at least five blocks in eight of 18 NSIC contests, including five of the past seven

 
#8 Jasmine Mulvihill (OH/RS, 5-11, Jr., Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South HS)
  • Three-time All-NSIC First Team
  • Three-time Colorado Premier Challenge All-Tournament Team
  • CSP/SCSU All-Tournament Team
  • Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week (8/30)
  • Three-time NSIC Player of the Week (8/29, 9/19 & 10/3)

  • Ranks second in the NSIC in kills per set (3.83) and points per set (4.67) in conference play
  • Ranks fourth in the conference with 0.45 service aces per set in NSIC play
  • Sits in 13th in the league with a .286 hitting percentage in NSIC action
  • Has reached double figures in kills in 15 of 18 league matches, including five with 15+
  • Has collected five double-doubles in conference play
  • CSP's career leader in kills per set (4.00) while ranking 10th in total kills (1,325)

 
#17 Emma Schmidt (OH/RS, 5-10, So., Maple Grove, Minn. / Champlin Park HS / Northern Iowa)
  • All-NSIC First Team
  • CSP/SCSU All-Tournament Team
  • 2021 NCAA Central Region All-Tournament Team
  • 2021 Colorado Premier Challenge All-Tournament Team
  • Ranks seventh in the NSIC with 0.41 service aces per set in conference action
  • Sits in eighth with a .313 hitting percentage in NSIC play
  • Registers in at 15th in the league in kills per set (3.15) and points per set (3.76)
  • Ranks second on the team with 3.03 digs per set in NSIC action
  • Has reached double figures in kills eight times and in digs 10 times in 18 NSIC matches
  • Has four double-doubles in the past five matches
  • Has at least one ace in all but three conference matches


#5 Teagan Starkey (S, 5-8, So., Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South HS)

  • Six-time NSIC Setter of the Week (8/29, 9/6, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10 & 10/24)

  • Leads the NSIC with 12.35 assists per set in NSIC play, a full 1.05 ahead of the second highest average
  • Guided the offense to a league-best .326 hitting percentage and 14.39 kills per set in NSIC play
  • Has chipped in 2.02 digs per set and 0.55 blocks per set in NSIC action
  • Has collected at least 30 assists in 16 of 18 conference matches, registering 50+ four times
  • Has three double-doubles in league play
  • Leads the nation in assists per set while


#1 Sophia Andersen (OH/RS, 5-10, So., New Prague, Minn. / New Prague HS)
  • Two-time All-NSIC Second Team
  • Expected to be NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence
  • Ranks ninth in the NSIC with a .308 hitting percentage in league play
  • Registers in at third on the team with 2.80 kills per set in NSIC action
  • Has added 0.67 digs per set and 0.38 blocks per set
  • Has reached double figures in kills in eight of 16 conference matches
  • Has hit .300 or better in 11 NSIC contests

 
#14 Kennedy Brady (MB, 5-11, Sr., Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North HS)
  • Two-time All-NSIC Second Team
  • 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
  • Expected to be four-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence
  • Ranks fourth in the NSIC with a .380 hitting percentage in conference play
  • Registers in at 14th with 0.87 blocks per set in NSIC action
  • Sits in fifth on the team with 2.00 kills per set in league play
  • Has collected seven or more kills in eight conference matches, clearing double figures twice
  • Has at least four blocks in six of 18 NSIC matches
  • Hit .400 or better in seven league matches
