ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston 5-1 on Friday night. The win comes on the Golden Bears' conference home opener.
Head Coach Steve Bellis commented on the win, "[The effort] was a good team performance and a night with some good finishes."
A total of 10 Golden Bears all had points in the contest, as well as three goalkeepers making appearances. Keepers Ashlyn Waldon and Sarah Golemme combined for a shutout second half with a total of three saves.
Katie Glowinski, Lola Baldwin, and Leah Engh all earned their first career goals. Abby Kloiber, Jena Berkland, Cayla Renwick, Corynn Grabau, and Jessica Timpane all had assists during the contest.
Sophomore midfielder Bethany Weller had her second goal of the season after scoring in the 16th minute and also took seven shots in the contest.
Another sophomore, Nikki Anderson, scored her first goal of the season in the 76th minute, unassisted.
As a squad, the Golden Bears had possession of the ball for 73% of the match, attacking in Crookston's half of the field 80% of the time. The team also totaled 38 shots with 16 in the first 90 minutes and 22 in the second half.
An early goal from the visitors in the 14th minute gave Crookston their only goal of the night.
The Golden Bears will face #15 Bemidji State next to finish out the weekend conference home series on Sunday, Sep. 26 at 1 p.m.
