Baseball inks three transfers for 2022 season

CSP adds a pair of infielders and a pitcher to the mix

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul head baseball coach Neil Lerner has announced the addition of three transfers in the 2022 signing class to bring the total class to nine.
 
Lerner on the three additions: "We feel very fortunate to add Mason, Michael and Carter to our team. They are not only excellent baseball players, but also high quality people that will have a positive impact on our program. They were each very successful at their respective junior college and we look forward to that success continuing at CSP."
 
Mason Nadolney (IF, 6-5, 225, R-Fr., Minnetonka, Minn. / Minnetonka HS / NIACC)
North Iowa Area Community College
2021: Appeared in 40 games for the Trojans … slashed .254/.348/.623 over 122 at-bats … paced the squad with 13 home runs, 35 RBIs and 35 runs scored … had six multi-hit games … homered in back-to-back games twice, and in three straight games once … went 4-4 with two home runs and five RBIs against Century on Mar. 13 … finished a triple shy of the cycle in a 3-5 performance with three RBIs and two runs scored at Ellsworth on Apr. 29.
 
Jacksonville University
2019: Redshirted, did not play.
 
Minnetonka High School: Lettered in baseball for the Skippers … named team captain and a team MVP in his senior season … All-State Second Team … slashed .375/.475/.562 with 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored … helped the team reach the MSHSL Class AAAA State Championship game.
 
Personal: Has a younger sister … majoring in finance at Concordia … earned an associate's degree from NIACC.
 
Lerner on Nadolney: "Mason played under former CSP All-NSIC third baseman and current NIACC head coach Drew Sannes. He is a tremendous athlete that possesses great size and quickness. Mason can play multiple positions in the infield and brings with him the ability to drive the ball out of the park. We look for Mason to compete for a starting spot in our infield and bring additional power to the middle of our lineup."
 
Carter Shook (IF, 6-0, 185, So., Mahtomedi, Minn. / Mahtomedi HS / Century)
Century College
2021: Appeared in 24 games as a utility player for the Wood Ducks … slashed .371/.450/.571 over 81 plate appearances … hit three doubles and three home runs while driving in 15 and scoring 15 times … picked up eight multi-hit games on the season … started the final 10 games of the year, picking up four multi-hit efforts during that span.
 
2020: Appeared in 10 games as a freshman … picked up eight hits in 22 at-bats for a .364 batting average … added a .517 on-base percentage and a .545 slugging percentage … collected six RBIs and five runs on the season … picked up his first career hit, a three-run triple, against Mesabi Range CTC on Mar. 6 … went 4-7 with a pair of multi-hit games against SUNY Adirondack on Mar. 13.
 
Mahtomedi High School: Lettered twice in baseball for the Zephyrs after lettering once at Lawrence High School in Kansas … helped the team to back-to-back MSHSL Class AAA State Tournaments, including a state title in his senior season.
 
Personal: Has an older sister and a younger sister … majoring in business administration at Concordia … his sister was a cheerleader at the University of Minnesota.
 
Lerner on Shook: "Carter joins our program after his time at Century College. He has the ability to play second base, shortstop and third base as he is a solid defender with a strong arm. He is a quality hitter who will continue to grow at the plate working with Coach McKenzie and our staff. In addition to providing depth and experience to our infield, we look for Carter to compete to start at one of our infield spots."
 
Michael Sturek (RHP, 5-11, 195, Sr., Minnetonka, Minn. / Minnetonka HS / Austin Peay)
Austin Peay State University
2021: Made six relief appearances for the Governors … compiled a 1-0 record over 6.2 innings of work … struck out seven and walked five … struck out three in a shutout inning against Bellarmine on May 5 … picked up a win at Belmont on May 11, working 0.2 innings … threw a shutout frame against Southeast Missouri on April 28.
 
North Iowa Area Community College
2020: Made four appearances, including two starts … went 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA on the season … collected 22 strikeouts in 12.1 innings to put up a massive 16.1 K/9 … struck out seven in both of his two starts (3.0 IP at Redlands on March 7 and 4.0 IP against Northwest Oklahoma on March 11).
 
2019: Appeared in 16 games out of the bullpen … allowed just one earned run and struck out 22 over 15.0 innings for an 0.60 ERA … picked up five saves and a win … had a 13.2 K/9 and a .132 opponent average … began his career with 11 consecutive scoreless appearances (10.1 innings).
 
Minnetonka High School: Lettered in baseball, football and hockey for the Skippers … appeared in seven games in relief as a senior … struck out 11 in 5.2 innings … helped the team reach the MSHSL Class AAAA State Championship game.
 
Personal: Has an older brother and a twin brother … majoring in exercise science at Concordia … received an associates in science degree at NIACC.
 
Lerner on Sturek: "Michael was a very successful pitcher at NIACC under Coach Sannes. He has the ability to not only throw hard but to command the zone and throw quality off speed pitches.  He is a bulldog on the mound and we look for Michael to immediately compete for a spot in our rotation."
