Baseball unveils fall signing class

CSP adds four pitchers and two position players for 2022

11.11.20

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul head baseball coach Neil Lerner has announced the addition of six prep recruits in the 2022 signing class.

The class includes four signees from Minnesota and a pair from Wisconsin with four pitchers and two position players.

Lerner on recruiting class: "We are both proud and excited to announce our 2021 recruiting class. We believe that these student-athletes will be a great fit to our program and will contribute to the ongoing success that we have had on the field, in the classroom and in the CSP community. We look forward to working with them over the next several years and helping them develop as students, baseball players and people. Assistant coach Jeff Fasching, in cooperation with our staff, did an amazing job identifying and bringing in extremely talented baseball players and, more importantly, quality people during a very challenging time for recruiting. Our class is pitcher heavy, providing us with additional depth to our pitching staff, including some that will have the chance to make an immediate impact on the mound as freshmen. Our two position players have the ability to play multiple positions as both are great athletes with impressive work ethics.  All in all, we are thrilled to add these six players to our Golden Bear baseball family."

Kal Brohmer (IF/OF, 5-10, 160, Fr., Elko, Minn. / Lakeville South HS)
Lakeville South High School: Lettered in baseball for the Cougars … named team captain … hit .320 with a .400 on-base percentage in 19 at-bats … collected a pair of doubles and a tripe on the year.

Personal: Has an older sister … undecided on a major at Concordia.

Fasching on Brohmer: "Kal is an outstanding kid that has overcome a lot in his life. We love his passion for the game of baseball and positive outlook on life. At the plate, he has a smooth left handed swing that shoots line drives to all fields. On defense, he has the ability to play multiple positions including outfield and middle infield. As Kal continues to get stronger, he will be a very good player in our program."

Korey Dahlberg (RHP/2B, 5-11, 190, Fr., Farmington, Minn. / Farmington HS)
Farmington High School: Lettered in baseball, basketball and trap shooting for the Tigers … named team captain … earned All-South Suburban Conference Second Team honors in 2018 … went 4-0 with a save and an 0.37 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over eight appearances on the mound … struck out 16 in 19.0 innings pitched while allowing just nine hits … hit .237 (4-17) with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Personal: Has an older sister and a younger brother … plans to major in computer science at Concordia.

Fasching on Dahlberg: "Korey is as polished of a pitcher as you will find at the high school level. He has an advanced feel for multiple pitches and a knack for getting outs. We are very excited to have Korey join our program. The sky is the limit as he continues to mature and add velocity."

Jack Greenlun (C/IF/RHP, 6-0, 185, Fr., Sartell, Minn. / Sartell HS)
Sartell High School: Lettered in baseball, football and basketball for the Sabres … named team captain of the baseball team … hit .385 with five doubles and nine runs batted in.

Personal: Has a younger brother … plans to major in biology and minor in physical therapy at Concordia.

Fasching on Greenlun: "Jack is a phenomenal catcher for this class. He has a great feel for how to work behind the plate and has a plus arm. At the plate, he has a solid approach and the ability to drive the ball to the gaps. He also has the ability to play multiple positions on defense and could pitch some as well."

Reece Piontek (LHP, 6-2, 175, Fr., Denmark, Wis. / Denmark HS)

Fasching on Piontek: "Reece is a three-sport athlete that possesses great athleticism on the mound. His fastball sits in the mid 80's from the left side that he pairs with two solid off-speed pitches. Reece is very passionate about the game of baseball, and is a kid that will work hard to become great."

Gavin Rusch (RHP, 6-5, 190, Fr., Green Bay, Wis. / Bay Port HS)
Bay Port High School: Lettered in baseball for the Pirates.
