EUGENE, Ore. – Concordia-St. Paul's
Marcus Gustaveson (Wheaton, Ill.) has been accepted to the 2020 US Olympic Track & Field Team Trials in the discus throw. The US Olympic Team Trials will be held from June 18-27 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The discus throw qualifying round will begin at 7:05 p.m. PDT, 9:05 p.m CDT, on June 24. From there, the top 12 finishers in the qualifying round will participate in finals at 3:30 p.m. PDT, 5:30 p.m. CDT, on June 25. The top three finishers from the final round will be self-selected to the US Olympic team while the fourth-place finisher will be self-selected as an alternate. Gustaveson was accepted to the trials in the 13
th spot by virtue of his 61.53m throw at the Tucson Elite Classic on May 20. That distance was number one in NCAA DII this season and ranks fourth in Division II history. That mark is also the 65
th farthest in the world and the 10
th farthest in the US this year.
