Chris Garrett NFL Draft

Garrett selected by LA Rams in NFL Draft

The senior pass rusher becomes CSP's second NFL Draft pick

5.1.21

CLEVELAND - With the 25th pick of the 7th round (#252 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams selected Concordia-St. Paul senior outside linebacker (EDGE) Chris Garrett. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native becomes the second Concordia player selected in the NFL Draft, joining Zach Moore in 2014.

"Our program is ecstatic about Chris being drafted by the Rams, representing our program in the NFL," said head coach Shannon Currier. "As good of a pass rusher as he is, he is an even better person. And while he was an outstanding player at CSP, he leaves a legacy that will always impact the program. We are excited to watch him do well with this opportunity with the Rams!"

A defensive lineman (DE) for Concordia, Garrett has been listed as an outside linebacker and an edge rusher by various draft publications leading up to the 86th annual NFL Draft. Garrett helped the Golden Bears improve each of his three seasons on the gridiron, moving from a 2-9 squad as a freshman in 2017 to a winning 6-5 campaign as a junior in 2019 following a three-win improvement in his sophomore year.

Garrett joins Zach Moore, also an explosive pass rusher for Concordia, who was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots in the sixth round (#198 overall). Moore went on to have a five year career in the NFL, winning the Super Bowl as a rookie in the 2014 season with the Patriots. He played in 26 games with two starts, with a career-high 3.5 sacks in his final season with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. He was also a member of the Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys.

He becomes the fifth Golden Bear to sign an NFL contract since 2012, joining Tom Obarski (2015), Zach Moore (2014), Charles Gilbert (2012) and Tyler Hendrickson (2012), and he is the sixth Concordia football player to sign an NFL contract since the program was founded in 1969, joining the first to do so, Mike Bailey in 1971 with the Dallas Cowboys.
