ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia Golden Bears Hearthstone team (3-2) came from behind to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory over Ryerson (2-3) in the Spring Tespa Collegiate Championship on Monday night.
GAME ONE: CSP Rogue vs. RU Paladin (RU Win)
CSP Starts off strong with their watchtower deck clearing and making way for the secrets to be played. By turn six RU had a good board built of silverhand recruits with a massive Field Contact play that effectively cleared the board for CSP. They continued to do this over and over from turn seven to eight while Ryerson held onto 16 health. They played an Ancient Guardian in an attempt to stop CSP's advances, however with a good Coerce spell, CSP was able to remove the minion in time. Turn 10 saw both teams make a golem of their own, with CSP being able to clear the board once again and put Ryerson to seven health. With one last ditch Ancient Guardian, Ryerson was able to hold off lethal for one more turn. Turn 14 saw the Bears on their backfoot with the placement of a strong frontline and librams, leaving CSP to concede to game one.
GAME TWO: CSP Rogue vs. RU Priest (RU win)
CSP started off strong with two Watch Posts on the board, increasing the mana cost of the cards in the hand of RU. However with one good Hysteria play both were gone leaving your Bears with a small board that they pushed until turn seven with a good golem play. CSP then decided to play Jancie Barov down twice with a shadow step and created a choice of what is the real card for RU to pick from. After unsuccessfully clearing the board, RU was able to reborn a Brightwing and end their turn. CSP was able to keep a pretty good board, bringing RU to 14 health at turn 11. However in a stroke of chance, were able to discover Archfin Mssh 'fn and make it a large taunt minion. Which eventually sealed the deal for CSP as they were not able to make it past as they went down 0-2.
GAME THREE: CSP Priest vs. RU Warlock (CSP win)
CSP started off strong by finding a Nazmani Bloodweaver to lead off the third round. However RU used a Cascading Disaster, a crucial card in their deck to remove the early tempo of CSP. Back and forth back and forth until eventually CSP was able to for 10 turns straight build an impenetrable wall of Setthek Veilweavers and Nazmani Bloodweavers, creating priest spell after priest spell and slowing eating down the deck and health of Ryerson.Â
GAME FOUR: CSP Mage vs. RU Warlock (CSP Win)
CSP starts off with their deck of lunacy, making all of their spells worth more, but stay the same cost in their deck, which is composed entirely of spells. A unique playstyle to start off game four. However in a quick turn of events, turn eight CSP found lethal with a fireball and a four damage empowered hero power. Ryerson not being able to find any useful play against the mage deck of CSP brought us to a game five.
GAME FIVE: CSP Rogue vs. RU Warlock (CSP Win)
CSP started off well with a lot of card draw and a quick golem made from Kazakus. CSP pushed the tempo on turn five with two 5/5 divine shield golems on the field. Knowing the Warlock deck of RU needs to have a turn seven and eight to effectively clear such high health minions. However they did not find their combo, and with the Bears finding a Fireball, they were able to Wicked Stab and deal 13 damage to win the game and complete the reverse sweep.
