CSP IN THE GLIAC
With the league opener on the Golden Bears' doorstep, a look back at recent history has the squad picked to finish second in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll for the second year in a row. Now it in its fourth year in the league, CSP has finished 5th in 2018 (4-8), 4th in 2019 (7-4) before last year's conference season was canceled due to COVID-19.
CSP IN THE RANKINGS
Concordia opened 2021 ranked #22 by the IWLCA Preseason Division II Coaches' Poll and #16 by NIKE / US Lacrosse. After splitting its opening weekend on the road with its lone loss being at #6 UIndy before a 13-3 win at Lewis, CSP slipped two spots to #24 in the IWLCA before dropping to receiving votes and now out in the most recent polls while remaining idle throughout. In the NIKE / US Lacrosse Top-20, CSP was ranked in each of the first three weeks, slipping from #16 in the preseason to #20 in each of the next two weeks after the 1-1 start, and still remains under consideration for the rankings in the newest poll on March 15.
Last year, CSP made its debut in the IWLCA Division II Top-25 by finishing the pandemic shortened season #25 in the final rankings, while being ranked #16, #14 and #16 in the NIKE / US Lacrosse poll.
Concordia has registered an all-time 1-16 record against active IWLCA Top-25 opponents, winning its first game against a ranked opponent in 2020, a 15-4 win over #14 Colorado Mesa on February 21, 2020 at the Concordia Dome to snap a 13-game losing streak against nationally-ranked opponents.
CSP has three more nationally-ranked opponents on the 2021 schedule, road trips to #10 Grand Valley State and #2 Lindenwood on April 1, 3 & 6.
HOME SWEET DOME
Concordia enters its home opener on an active five game home winning streak, starting with a 15-9 win over Davenport outdoors at Sea Foam Stadium on April 30, 2019 in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals in its first-ever postseason win. Last year, CSP opened the year with four straight wins at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium, all by at least eight goals while scoring at least 14 each game and allowing six or less each time out. The Golden Bears are 11-6 all-time when playing in the Concordia Dome and 13-10 all-time at home.
YOUNG PROGRAM ON THE RISE
Concordia is now in its fifth season as an NCAA Division II women's lacrosse program, and coming off back-to-back winning campaigns, producing a 17-10 record across the past three seasons (2019, 2020, 2021). The 2019 Golden Bears went 11-7 overall and produced a school-best 7-4 GLIAC finish, hosting and winning its first postseason game while reaching the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. Last year, the team was continuing that momentum with a 5-2 start to non-conference play before the season was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the team has played two of its three non-conference games with a 1-1 record and is ready for its first GLIAC contest since 2019.
The 2021 season marks the first year without its inaugural recruiting class, although redshirt senior
