ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears Hearthstone team (2-0) made it back-to-back sweeps to start the 2021 NACE Spring Championship as they knocked off Glenville State on Tuesday evening.
After seeing the start of the contest delayed due to technical difficulties, CSP made quick work of the Pioneers as it took just 20 minutes to complete the sweep.
In the opening game, it was a battle of druid decks as both teams matched heroes. The Golden Bears quickly built a minion advantage and chipped away at GSC through the middle stages of the game. By turn eight, CSP was able to buff their minions enough to overwhelm Glenville State and take the victory.
Concordia turned to their rogue deck in game two while GSC tapped their paladin deck. The Pioneers struck first as they delivered nine damage over the first few turns, but they were unable to keep up the pace as CSP once again built up an insurmountable minion edge to finish off GSC by turn seven.
Concordia concluded the sweep with their paladin deck matched up against the mage deck of Glenville State. The Golden Bears quickly put both teams at 10 mana by playing Nozdormu the TImeless early on to speed up the pace in the third game. From there, some windfury attacks delivered significant damage to give the Golden Bears a strong advantage before the Carnival Clown finished the job to make it 3-0 in favor of CSP.
The Golden Bears will look to extend their perfect start next week as they take on UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
