Golden Bears draw against Minot State 0-0 after 2OT

MINOT, N.D.- The Concordia-St. Paul women's soccer team (7-6-2, 6-4-2 NSIC) drew against the Minot State Beavers (9-4-2, 8-2-2) after two overtime periods on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 0-0.

After the contest, Head Coach Steve Bellis commented, "We bounced back from a disappointing Friday game and showed some real quality today. Minot are a strong side and I'm very happy with today's team performance."

After the weekend of NSIC play, the Golden Bears drop to 7th place in the league. With 20 points, the CSP squad is three points out from a top-five position and 12 points behind Bemidji State in 1st.

Bellis further commented, "Our wing play was strong and they kept creating chances for us up top."

Though unable to find the back of the net, the Golden Bears offense made strides. With five shots, sophomore forward Katie Anderson led the CSP squad on the pitch, regaining her 1st place position on the NSIC leaderboard and amongst her squad with 75 shots in 14 games.

Junior defender Ciara Bailey managed three shots in 101 minutes played to trail Anderson's five, but she also paced Anderson with two shots on goal.

The Golden Bear defense "did everything we needed to and in the second half created enough chances to score the winner" added Bellis.

Senior defender Cayla Renwick and freshman goalkeeper Ashlyn Waldon played the entire 110 minutes for the CSP defense. Sophomore defender Tori Miller played 109 minutes. The Golden Bear defense was also able to hold NSIC shots on goal leader Sofia Lewis to only two shots on frame after she was averaging three a game.

With her second start in net, Waldon faced 10 shots and made six saves. She also earned her first career shutout.

Bellis plans ahead, "We look forward to finishing the next three games on top and fighting for a playoff spot."

The Golden Bears will split next weekend on the road and at home. They will play in Marshall, Minn. on Friday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. as they take on Southwest Minnesota State and then host Sioux Falls at Sea Foam Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
