ABERDEEN, S.D.- The Concordia women's soccer team fell to Northern State University (S.D.) on Friday night 3-2. The Golden Bears move to 3-4-1 (2-2-1 NSIC) on the season.
Head Coach Steve Bellis commented on the evening saying, "We knew Northern State would be a tough side and very good on set pieces. We gave them too many opportunities and failed to take ours."
Despite the loss, sophomore striker Katie Anderson had two goals on the night, being the Bears' only scorer of the evening. She furthers her lead among the squad with six goals on the season now, jumping her to second place in the NSIC.
Anderson also managed five shots on frame during the night which was the highest of either squad. The five shots on goal helps further Anderson's lead in the conference to 21 in eight games played. Her seven shots against Northern State also puts her atop the conference with 44.
The Golden Bear squad out-shot the Wolves 15-9 and placed eight shots on net compared to the opponents' seven. Nevertheless, NSU found the back of the net more often. "It's sometimes how the game goes," said Coach Bellis.
Regardless, the Concordia effort was noticeable. Sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Leibiger and sophomore defender Tori Miller, along with freshman goalkeeper Jessi Jordan, all played the full 90 minutes.
The Golden Bear effort on the road is not over yet. The squad will travel to northern Minnesota to face the MSU Moorhead Dragons (0-8, 0-5 NSIC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
