WAYNE, Neb. – The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (3-0) defeated the Wayne State Wildcats (1-2) 96-60 on Friday night to earn their first conference win of the season and remain undefeated.
The Golden Bears' offense got off to a strong start when junior guard Meghan
DuBois hit a three on the team's first shot attempt of the game. Wayne State quickly responded to tie the game at 3-3 early. The two teams went back and forth for the next few minutes, but CSP closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 22-15 lead into the break.
That momentum carried into the second quarter as senior guard
Riley Wheatcraft got the Bears rolling with a jump shot to extend the lead. Throughout the rest of the quarter, the lead continued to grow as the Bears held the Wildcats to just 27.8% shooting from the floor. A late 10-0 scoring run by the Bears gave them a 45-26 advantage at the half.
DuBois put on a show in the first half, leading the Bears with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Coming out of the half, the squad picked up right where they left off as they started the third quarter on another 10-0 run to take a commanding 55-26 lead. The Bears kept their foot on the gas through the rest of the third, outscoring the Wildcats 32-18 in the quarter.
The final quarter was more evenly matched, but the Bears still managed to outscore WSC 19-16 to seal the victory.
The Bears once again got contributions from all over the roster with 11 different players recording points and three reaching double figures.
DuBois finished the game with a career-high 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Becher also continued her hot streak, finishing with her third double-digit performance in as many games with 16 points, four rebounds, and three blocks.

Wheatcraft put up another solid performance, ending the game with 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor and 3-4 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard
Jadyn Hanson provided a spark off the bench, contributing nine points to go along with three rebounds and two steals.
The CSP defense had another strong outing, holding the Wildcats to just 21-62 (33.9%) shooting from the floor in the contest. Entering the weekend as the defending
NSIC player of the week, Wayne State's Erin
Norling was mostly held in check as she finished the game with just seven points.
The Golden Bears and Wildcats will meet again on Saturday, January 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Rice Auditorium.
