Dr. Saylor receives prestigious NCAA Research Committee appointment

The longtime CSP history professor & Faculty Athletics Representative holds one of two Division II seats

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has appointed Concordia-St. Paul history professor and Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Thomas Saylor to the NCAA Research Committee.
 
Saylor will serve a term of four full academic years beginning September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2024.
 
"I'm excited to have a role at the national level for the NCAA, and have a chance to represent Concordia and the NSIC!" he exclaimed.
 
The national committee consists of 10 seats, with two allocated to the NCAA Division II membership along with four from Division I, two from Division III and two additional unallocated seats.
 
The committee's duties include:
  • Evaluate, supervise and coordinate the NCAA's research activities
  • Make recommendations to the Executive Committee regarding expenditures of NCAA funds for research projects
  • Make recommendations to the Management Councils concerning research topics in intercollegiate athletics
 "We are proud of Dr. Saylor and his appointment to this prestigious committee certainly is well-deserved," said Regan McAthie, Director of Athletics at CSP. "He has a strong passion for his role in serving our student-athletes and is an excellent advocate for them on the campus, conference, and now national level."
 
Saylor has been serving as CSP's Faculty Athletics Representative since 2012 and has been an official scorer at men's and women's basketball games on campus since the early 2000s. The Ohio native has been active professionally in the field of oral history, authoring several books and has received fellowships at universities in Oslo, Berlin, Munich and Oxford.
