Soccer announces three additions to the 2020 signing class

CSP adds two incoming freshmen and one transfer to the 2020 mix

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Concordia-St. Paul soccer head coach, Steve Bellis, announces the signings of three additional players for the 2020 season. Two incoming freshmen and one transfer sophomore from Concordia University Portland.

The new Golden Bears come from Minnesota and New Zealand.
 
"We are excited to add three significantly talented players to our 2020 roster. All three players will bring something different to our class and program," coach Bellis says.
 
Grace Marshalek (M, 5-4, Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Champlin Park HS)
Champlin Park High School: Named All Conference for soccer, was named captain for her soccer team in 2019 and was also named team MVP … Is a four-year letter winner in soccer … Was named to the Academic Honor Roll all four years of her high school career … Led her team to an undefeated 2019 season with a record of 12-0-1 … Also led her team to a Northwest Suburban Conference title, a Section 5AA title, and was part of her team's first appearance in the soccer state tournament … Scored six goals and collected five assists. 

Personal: Planning to major in Marketing here at Concordia … Has two sisters and a brother 

Coach Bellis on Marshalek: Grace comes to us from a strong youth program and is used to playing at a competitive level. She's a hard worker and is technically gifted. She will be a very good addition in the midfield rotation. 
 
Leah Engh (M/F, 5-7, Fr. Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie HS)
Eden Prairie High School: Was named All-State and All conference and was named team captain … Lettered two times for the Eagles … Scored nine goals her senior year, four of which were game winners, she also racked up three assists … Helped her team earn the No. 1 seed in the section 2AA tournament in 2018. 
 
Personal: Currently is undecided on a major at CSP … Has an older brother and a younger sister.
 
Coach Bellis on Engh: Leah is a strong athlete; her physicality will fit our conference very well. Her willingness to not only win the ball but also transition on attack quickly caught my eye in the recruiting process. 
 
Bethany Weller (M, 5-5, So. Hamilton, New Zealand. / Saint Kentigern College
Concordia University Portland:
2019: Played in 14 games and started in three for the Cavaliers … Totaled 433 minutes for an average of 30.9 minutes per game … Took seven shots and placed three on frame … Took four corner kicks during the season …. Played a season-high 52 minutes against Biola (9/14) … Had a season-high two shots on against Biola (9/14).

Saint Kentigern College: Was the 2015 Most Valuable Player... Was the recipient of the Captains Award and in 2012 and was awarded the Young Players Award … Was named development player of the year in 2017-18 … Scored 25 goals and had 75 assists in 158 matches in her high school career ... In 2010-14 she helped lead her team to the Waikato Secondary School Leagues Titles as well as being the Waikato Secondary Schools Knock-Out Cup Winners ... Helped lead her team to the national tournament title in 2010 … She played in the United Kingdom for Charlton Athletic FC.
 
Personal: Plans on majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in Athletic Training at CSP … She wants to attend graduate school and become an athletic trainer … Has an older sister and a younger brother. 
 
Coach Bellis on Weller: Beth is originally from New Zealand and also played in the UK. She is a transfer from a successful D2 program - she understands the college game well. Beth is a soccer junkie and loves the game. She will add some smarts and creativity into our offensive line.
