ST. PAUL, Minn. – Throughout the duration of the spring semester, cspbears.com will feature its spring senior student-athletes who had their careers cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), providing a glimpse into their past, present and future to our followers who were unable to see them compete in 2020.
Due to the ongoing changing legislation with college athletics related to the COVID-19 pandemic, spring student-athletes are expected to retain a year of eligibility. Some of the CSP seniors have expressed interest in returning for the 2020-21 academic year with the goal of competing for their full senior year. Since it's early in the process, cspbears.com will not differentiate between seniors who will and won't return and instead will profile each senior consistently.
Leading off this week in the senior spotlight series is Canton, Georgia native
Kaci Reid from the lacrosse program, an exercise science major and sport management minor. Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team as a junior in 2019, Reid has played in all 57 of the program's games including 35 starts.
Primarily a starter on the 2019 team's 11-7 campaign and trip to the conference tournament semifinals, Reid had her most productive season with highs of eight goals and 20 points while matching her previous high of 12 assists. She also had highs of 29 shots and 20 shots on goal while her 19 ground balls and six caused turnovers were just two and one shy of her previous highs from her freshman year, respectively.
As a senior, Reid was off to another strong start with five points in seven games including four assists which was third-best on the roster.
Across four years, Reid ranks third in program history with 34 assists and fifth with 53 points while adding 19 goals and 52 ground balls.
She's been a part of a program that has produced a 31-26 all-time record and was a starter on the 2019 team that produced team records in overall wins (11), GLIAC wins (7) and qualified for the postseason for the first time, hosting and winning its GLIAC Tournament first round contest to reach the semifinals.
Head coach Joe Nelson on Kaci Reid:
"Kaci worked hard on and off the field and that showed every time she entered the offensive zone. She was and still is a leader on our team helping out with team events, activities, and logistics. Watching her face light up on the field was a joy to watch."
