ST. PAUL, Minn. – For their final 2019-20 regular season games, the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (13-13, 10-10 NSIC) will host a pair of NSIC South opponents at the Gangelhoff Center. The Golden Bears will face the Winona State Warriors (16-8, 12-8 NSIC) on February 21st at 5:30 p.m. for the Slam Dunk Don't Drive Drunk campaign, followed by a game on Saturday afternoon against the Upper Iowa Peacocks (3-23, 2-18 NSIC) at 3:30 p.m. for Senior Night.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Bears were on the road for a set of rematches against Wayne State and Augustana. On Friday night, Concordia defeated the Wildcats with an exciting 81-80 victory but fell to the Vikings on Saturday with a final score of 85-90.

Against WSC, the Wildcats took a one-point lead with 13 seconds to go after CSP had the higher score for over 64% of the game. Junior Danielle Schaub played man-to-man defense as the Wildcats guard tried to cross half court and snagged her one steal of the night to turn around and finish the game-winning layup with six seconds to go.

The Golden Bears trailed by one point after the first quarter as the Wildcats outscored them 16-15. Both teams dropped the same amount from the floor, but CSP couldn't find their touch and hit just six of 19 for a slow start in the game. In the seconds quarter, the Bears went on to outscore WSC 20-15 on 60% shooting from the field (9-15).

Concordia ended the night on 45% (27-60) from the floor and were sharp from beyond the arc on 40% (8-10) from three. Riley Wheatcraft and Sidney Wentland were the Golden Bears top scorers, as they each put up 20 points for CSP. Wheatcraft also led with seven rebounds on 41.2% shooting from the floor (7-17), while contributing four assists and a block. Wentland collected five rebounds on 53.8% shooting from the floor (7-13) and had a block and a steal.

The next day against Augustana, the Golden Bears had a steady lead in the first half and were up 40-36 going into the second. Despite their sharp shooting and ability to hit threes in the first half, Concordia struggled to find shot opportunities in the third quarter while the Vikings put up a quick nine points to take a five-point lead.

Augustana was up 64-57 at the top of the fourth and the Golden Bears would never gain back their lead. CSP hit a season high of 15 three-point shots to be one bucket shy of the all-time single game record for 3FGM. They ended the night on 45.6% shooting from the floor (31-68) and 51.7% from three (15-29), while hitting 8-8 from the stripe in their lowest free-throw attempts of the season.

Nine of those three-pointers game from Danielle Schaub who was also just one bucket shy of breaking the single game record. The junior shot 75% from the floor to lead the team with a career-high of 27 points against the Vikings.

Wheatcraft and Cassidy Byrd were the teams second leading scorers with 13 points each. Wheatcraft hit 3-of-6 from beyond the arc while picking up five rebounds. Byrd shot 60% (3-5) from three and 50% from the floor (4-8) while dishing out two assists and one block.

WINONA STATE SERIES HISTORY

LAST MEETING WITH WSU
Concordia met up with Winona State earlier this season (December 14th) on the road where they let their sharp shooting propel them to an 88-82 win over the Warriors.

At the half, the Bears were ahead by one as Meghan DuBois dominated the Warriors man-to-man defense and scored 11 points on lane drives. DuBois ended the night with her best shooting percentage of the season going 66.7% (8-12) from the field and 100% (3-3) from the arc, ending the night with 20 points along with four assists.

The squad shot 48.5% (32-66) from the field and held the Warriors to a field goal percentage of 42%. With a strong defense, the Bears caused 11 turnovers by WSU and gave up only eight which is their lowest this season.

Eight of Concordia' players put points on the scoreboard, 36 of their total baskets coming from the bench. Riley Wheatcraft performed well from the three-point line going 4-6, ending the night with 17 points and eight rebounds while Sydney Schultz scored 14 going 6-10 from the paint. UPPER IOWA SERIES HISTORY
Concordia has had a lot of success against the Peacocks, going 25-6 against Upper Iowa in their 31 matchups. Concordia has a 13-4 record when playing UIU at the Gangelhoff Center.

LAST MEETING WITH UIU
The Golden Bears played the Peacocks for their first road game of the season back on December 13th. Concordia fell to the Peacocks 65-63 in a second half upset.

The Golden Bears went on a 15-0 run within the first five minutes of the game. Their shooting and defense were strong as they left Upper Iowa dry from the paint and unable to get a shot up, resulting in an entire new lineup on the court for the Peacocks. The tables quickly turned when the fresh lineup for UIU went on a 9-0 run with four minutes left to go in the quarter and expanded that run to 18-0 in the second.

It was a back and forth game after that as Concordia fought back for the lead. The final half of the game was a much different story than the first, as the teams kept the score within two and each played productive defense to prevent any scoring runs.

Danielle Schaub ended the night as the leading scorer for the Bears with 16 points and five rebounds while she shot 53.8% from the field. Ayla Lemke put up a season high in scoring and rebounding with 12 points and nine boards. Sidney Wentland rounded out the trio with 11 points and three boards. As a team, the Bears outrebounded the Peacocks 41-32.

SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS

They put up an average of 2.04 blocks a game (13th NSIC), grab 4.46 steals (16th NSIC), and dish out 10.46 assists (15th NSIC).

Jessica Musgrave is the only woman on the roster averaging double digits with 14.8 points per game to rank seventh in the conference. She also leads the team in field goal percentage and rebounds per game at 41.7% shooting from the floor (9th NSIC) and 6.5 boards.

The teams best three-point shooter is Ally Fink who has made 10 of her 23 attempts (45%). UIU's second leading scorer is Natalie Dinius with 8.7.
