ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team (0-2) dropped both games to Southwest Minnesota State (1-1) on Friday night.
The Mustangs jumped out to a quick lead with the first two kills against
Joseph Gonzalez before he bounced back for the first kill of the game for the Golden Bears. SMSU grabbed the next kill to knock out Gonzalez.
Benjamin Gillespie was next up for CSP as he grabbed the first kill to bring Southwest Minnesota State's opening player to within a stock of being knocked out. Gillespie then lost his first stock before moving on to SMSU's second player.
Momentum shifted back in favor of the Mustangs as their second player took two straight kills from Gilespie to finish him off.
Josiah Skorseth followed for Concordia as he traded the first two stocks before two more in favor of SMSU gave the Mustangs a commanding lead with
Andrew Stroming the last one standing for the Golden Bears. Stroming managed one kill, but that would be all the more he could do as Southwest Minnesota State finished off game one with a win.
Josiah Skorseth opened up game two with a bang as he traded the first four stocks before a dominant finish gave CSP the advantage heading to SMSU's second player. Skorseth's impressive run continued as he took the first two stock from the next player before finally being knocked out.
Stroming picked up where Skorseth left off as he knocked out the second player for the Mustangs before taking another stock from player three. That would be it for him as he handed over the reins to
Benjamin Gillespie. The Mustangs completely turned the tide from there as they took three in a row to put the pressure on
Joseph Gonzalez. Gonzalez did come within a kill of pushing the Mustangs to their final player, but the third player for SMSU held on to claim the sweep.
CSP will be back in action next Friday against Milwaukee School of Engineering.
