ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Overwatch team (1-2) fell to Boise State University (4-0) 3-0 on Thursday evening.
The Golden Bears lineup for the third match of the season was
Matthew Walker,
Jack Krueger,
Quiben Yang,
Richard Mahle,
Angelina Srey, and
Chufu Thao.
In the first map, a game of control on the map Ilios, the Broncos came out quickly in round one as they captured the point without allowing the Bears to capture a single percentage point. It was more of the same in the second round as Boise State held the Bears at zero percent and captured the objective once again.
In map two, a game of hybrid on the map Blizzard World, the Golden Bears went on defense in the first round. The Boise State attack came out strong as the Broncos unlocked the payload and pushed it past the first two objectives quickly. With the payload on the doorstep of the final checkpoint, the Bears got a crucial stop on defense as they halted the Broncos push for a few short moments. The defensive effort was short-lived, however, as the Broncos quickly regrouped and pushed the payload past the final checkpoint to take round one.
In round two, the Bears were nearly able to unlock the payload before the Broncos defense regrouped and forced them off the point. From that point on, the Broncos were able to hold strong and run out the timer to win the round and take map two.
Prior to the third map, the Golden Bears made two substitutions as
Joseph Gonzalez came in for
Angelina Srey and
Daniel Carter came in for
Richard Mahle.
On the third map, a game of escort on the map Junkertown, CSP started round one on defense. The Bears defense took an aggressive approach as they tried to trap Boise State in their spawn. The strategy ultimately backfired as the Broncos cleared the Golden Bears from their spawn and pushed the payload all the way to the final checkpoint to win the round. In round two, the Broncos took a similar approach and set up near the Golden Bears spawn. The strategy paid off for Boise State as they kept the CSP attack contained and ran out the timer to win the round and complete the 3-0 sweep.
The Golden Bears will return to Overwatch action on Monday as they will take on an opponent to be determined at 7 p.m.
