ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Overwatch team (2-6) fell to Colorado College 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
The Golden Bears lineup for the fifth match of the season was Matthew Walker, Jack Krueger, Quiben Yang, Richard Mahle, Angelina Srey, and Chufu Thao.
In the first map, a game of control on the map Busan, the Golden Bears got off to a hot start as they quickly got on the control point and managed to capture 31% of the objective. From that point, the Tigers took over control of the point and captured all 100% of the objective to win the first round. In round two, it was the Tigers coming out strong as they muscled their way to 99% of the objective. The Bears were able to make a big stand and push the Tigers off the point before they could capture the final percent, but the Tigers quickly regrouped and pushed the Bears off as they captured the final percent to win the round and take map one.
In map two, a game of escort on the map Havana, the Golden Bears went on defense in the first round. The Bears defense had difficulty halting the Tiger's progress throughout the round, but they did manage a huge stop at a crucial choke point on the map. Ultimately, the Tigers were able to overcome the Golden Bears defense as they pushed the payload past the final checkpoint to win round one. In round two, the Bears made one good push as they moved the payload near the first checkpoint, but the effort fell short as the Tigers were able to hold them there and run out the timer and take map two.
On the third map, a game of hybrid on the map Eichenwalde, CSP started round one on defense. The Tigers attack was able to quickly unlock the payload and move the payload through all the checkpoints, winning round one. In round two, the Bears offense struggled to get anything going early as Colorado College was able to keep them away from the payload. As the timer began to get low, the Golden Bears managed one good push as they captured the first of three checkpoints required to unlock the payload. The attempt proved to be short lived as the Tigers defense made their way back and pushed the Bears off the point to win the round and complete the sweep.
The Golden Bears will return to Overwatch action tomorrow as they will take on Marian (Wis.) at 7 p.m. and Jamestown (N.D.) at 9 p.m.
