ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Overwatch team (2-5) fell to Boise State University 3-0 on Thursday evening.
The Golden Bears starting lineup for the match was Matthew Walker, Jack Krueger, Quiben Yang, Richard Mahle, Tyler Wade, and Chufu Thao.
In the first map, a game of control on the map Nepal, the Broncos came out quickly in round one as they captured the point without allowing the Bears to capture a single percentage point. It was more of the same in the second round as Boise State held the Bears at zero percent and captured the objective once again to win the first map.
In map two, a game of escort on the map Dorado, the Golden Bears went on defense in the first round. The Boise State attack came out strong as the Broncos unlocked the payload and pushed it past the first two objectives quickly. The Golden Bears managed to stall their progress for a few short moments, but the Boise offense was too strong as they pushed the payload across the finish line to win the round.
In round two, the Bears were able to move the payload near the halfway point of the first checkpoint before the Boise State defense regrouped and forced them off the payload. From there, the Broncos were able to run out the clock to win round the round and take map two.
On the third map, a game of hybrid on the map King's Row, CSP started round one on defense. The Bears defense took an aggressive approach as they tried to trap Boise State in their spawn. The Broncos were ready for the strategy as they quickly pushed the Bears off the payload and pushed it through the map to win round one. In round two, the Broncos took a similar approach and set up near the Golden Bears spawn. The Golden Bears attack came out strong as they were able to push the Broncos off the point and unlock the payload. From there, CSP managed to grind their way to the first checkpoint on the map. However, the Broncos defense held strong after that as they ran out the timer to complete the sweep.
The Golden Bears will return to Overwatch action on Monday as they will take on Colorado College at 7 p.m.
