ST. PAUL, Minn. –The Concordia Golden Bears Rocket League team (3-5) faced some tough opponents on Tuesday night. CSP suffered back to back losses against Ontario Tech (4-3) and Durham (Ontario) (7-0). Both of tonight's competitions were in the group stage of the NACE Fall Rocket League Championship.
CSP rolled out their starting lineup with junior
Phung Khang, freshman
Brett Mickelson and sophomore
David Voelker.
In game one the Golden Bears outshout Ontario 6-3, but Ontario was able to sneak in a goal early and the Ridgebacks took game one 1-0.
Brett Mickelson led the team with four shots and
David Voelker made two saves.
The Ridgebacks came out flying in game two of the series, they outshot the Golden Bears 9-3 and put up two early goals and then buried the hatchet in the final minutes to defeat CSP 3-1. Mickelson scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears and also made three saves.
Ontario Tech was looking for the sweep, but Concordia was not going to make it easy for them. It was a back and forth for the first few minutes of the game as each Golden Bear player put a shot in goal with Mickelson leading the team with two shots. The Ridgebacks were able to establish their offense and picked up their pace of play in the final few minutes. They scored three unanswered goals to defeat CSP 3-0 and securing the series sweep.
In the second game of the night the Durham Lords showed their strength and skills throughout this series. They allowed only three Golden Bear shots on goal all game as they put in four goals in 11 shots and defeated CSP 4-0.
The second game the Lords displayed the same dominant style of play as they scored six unanswered goals. Mickelson and Voelker each had scoring chances with three shots on goal each, but the Lords held the Golden Bears and defeated them 6-0.
With an uphill battle the Golden Bears got off to a much-needed fast start in the third game. Mickelson scored within the first minute of the game to give CSP a 1-0 lead. The good times didn't last very long after that as the Lords went on to score four straight goals.
Phung Khang was able to sneak one in during the final second of play but to no avail as Durham won the game 4-2, sealing the series sweep.
CSP is back in action next Tuesday night as they will take on Michigan Tech at 7 pm and TBD at 8:15 pm.
