ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul Rocket League team (0-1) dropped their first ever match to Arkansas State (1-1) in the second round of the group stage in the NACE Fall Rocket League Championship on Thursday night.
The Golden Bears registered at least one goal in all three games, but they were unable to keep pace with the Red Wolves as Arkansas State took all three games in the five-game series.
Nordell Brooks (Mystic_tortoise) registered the program's first ever goal as he finished the day with two goals and a save over the three-game series.
David Voelker (PrelawDiamond) also chipped in a pair of goals as well as an assist and seven saves in the series.
Phung Khang (TigerDahlia) matched Voelker's save total with seven as she registered at least two in each game.
In the first game of the series, CSP fell behind 6-0 before Brooks smashed home the program's first ever goal with a shot in the lower left corner of the net off a pass from Voelker with 39 seconds left on the clock. ASU tacked on a late goal to claim a 7-1 win in the opening game.
After falling behind 1-0 at the 4:15 mark of the second game, Brooks answered back with his second goal of the day as he evened the score at 1-1 with 3:59 to play. Arkansas State regained the lead with a goal with 3:23 on the clock before tacking on three more goals over the next 31 second to grow their lead to 5-1. Voelker tallied his first career goal at the 2:16 mark to pull CSP back within three, but that proved to be all the scoring in the game as the Red Wolves held on for a 5-2 win.
Arkansas State got off to a fast start in game three as they scored the first seven goals of the game before Voelker tapped in a point blank goal to get the Golden Bears on the board with 2:59 to play.
