Logan Hermes has officially announced League of Legends and Overwatch to the list games the program will be sponsoring in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Following the addition of NBA 2K last week, League of Legends and Overwatch bring the total to three officially sponsored games so far.
League of Legends (abbreviated LoL) is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. In League of Legends, players assume the role of an unseen "summoner" that controls a "champion" with unique abilities and work as a team to battle against a team of players from other schools. The goal is usually to destroy the opposing team's "Nexus", a structure that lies at the heart of a base protected by defensive structures, although other distinct game modes exist as well. Each League of Legends match is discrete, with all champions starting off fairly weak but increases in strength by accumulating items and experience over the course of the game.
Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Described as a "hero shooter", Overwatch is played in two teams of six, with each player selecting from a roster of 31 characters, known as "heroes", each with a unique style of play whose roles are divided into three general categories that fit their role. Players on a team work together to secure and defend control points on a map or escort a payload across the map in a limited amount of time.
Both games are sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).
