SERIES HISTORY: GVSU 3, CONCORDIA 0
The Golden Bears are seeking their first victory against the Lakers entering the fourth meeting, with GVSU being nationally ranked in all three prior meetings and sporting the #22 ranking by the IWLCA in this week's matchup. Concordia has made one trip to Allendale, a 21-4 loss last year. Earlier this season, CSP had its closest goal margin in the three game series, falling 17-4 at the Concordia Dome on March 15.
In this year's first meeting, CSP fell behind early as the Lakers netted eight goals in the first 10-plus minutes. Concordia rallied late in the half, however, cutting the margin to six (9-3) following a 3-1 scoring run. GVSU countered with another 8-0 run, though, to put the game away. The game's final score of 17-4 matched the outcome on the draw, which helped GVSU pile up a 35-13 shot advantage. Despite the draw and shot margins, CSP held its own in ball control as turnovers were even at 22 and ground balls being closely contested at 19-17 in favor of the Lakers. Six different players had a point in the game for Concordia, led by
Maddie Hentges with a goal, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Katie Lottsfeldt had seven saves and allowed 11 of the goals before
Claire Hagen played the final 29:35 in net, saving four shots with six goals allowed. Abbi O'Neal had four goals and Kelley Fitzgerald had five assists to pace the Lakers, while Carly Shisler added four points (3g, 1a) and seven draw controls.
Juniors
Maddie Hentges and
Kailey Heinl have accounted for 10 of the 13 goals scored by Concordia in the all-time series with Hentges netting six and Heinl four. Junior
Katie Lottsfeldt has registered 26 saves to a .413 save percentage with 15 ground balls.
