Lacrosse posts winning non-conference with 15-7 win over Fort Lewis

Concordia turns its sights to GLIAC play, hosting #15 GVSU next Friday

PUEBLO, Colo. - Concordia-St. Paul scored nine consecutive goals and never looked back, claiming a 15-7 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday afternoon at Gonzales Stadium on the campus of Colorado State University, Pueblo.

The Golden Bears conclude their non-conference schedule by posting a 3-2 record against opposition from the Rocky Mountain (RMAC) conference, including a pair of neutral site wins and a road win. It was the season-opener for Fort Lewis.

Concordia turns its sights towards Great Lakes (GLIAC) conference play next weekend, hosting #15 Grand Valley State on March 15 and Davenport on March 17 at the Concordia Dome.

Junior Maddie Hentges tied her own record with four assists, also scoring a pair of goals for a six point performance. She leads the team with 16 points (10g, 6a) on the season. Junior Alina Boyce paced the offense with four goals and is second on the team in both goals (9) and points (12) through non-conference play. Freshman Sara McNicoll also had a four point game with a pair of goals and assists.

The Skyhawks scored first, finally breaking the scoreless tie in the seventh minute before six different Concordia players scored in a span of eight and a half minutes to take a 6-1 lead midway through the half.

The run continued on Boyce's second goal and senior Izzy Snow added another (her first of two in the game) for an 8-1 lead at the half. Hentges made it a 9-0 scoring run 3:03 into the second half and from there Concordia would hold at least a six goal lead for the duration.

Nine different players found the net and Concordia had 10 assists on its 15 goals.

CSP built its first half lead on junior goalie Katie Lottsfeldt's play, saving four of the five shots on goal against her while the defense only allowed six total shots (five on goal).

In the second half, Concordia's play in the midfield prevented Fort Lewis from advancing, holding the Skyhawks to just 3-of-8 clear attempts and 12-of-21 for the game while the Bears were efficent in advancing the ball into the offensive end, converting 19-of-22 in the game and 8-of-9 in the second half. The result was a 37-20 final overall shot margin.

Sophomore Lexi Stanley led CSP's draw with five draw controls, tying Mary Keating and Lottsfeldt for the team lead with three ground balls.

Delaney Benson led Fort Lewis with three goals.
