CSP looks to finish the season strong with just four games before the NSIC tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (17-6, 13-5 NSIC) is set to host their last two regular season home games, facing off against Wayne State (13-11, 8-10 NSIC) on Friday at 5:30 and Augustana (19-8, 11-7 NSIC) Saturday at 3:30.

PINK NIGHT
On Friday, CSP's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting Pink Night at both the men's and women's basketball games against Wayne State. This initiative is centered on honoring those who are currently fighting cancer, those who are survivors of cancer, and those who may have lost a loved one to cancer. The SAAC group is raising funds for Hope Lodge - a facility located in Minneapolis that provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their care-givers.

CSP's SAAC group plans to take these donations and purchase items that are in need by the shelter such as toiletries and canned food. For those looking to make a donation, members of CSP's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be going through the stands periodically with donation buckets throughout the night. In addition, SAAC will be selling new pink shirts at the door for $10, with the first 50 students receiving a free shirt. All proceeds from pink shirt sales and donations will go to purchasing items for Hope Lodge.

SENIOR NIGHT
Saturday's marks Senior Night for the Golden Bears as they take on Augustana. The team's four seniors, Kyrah Fredenburg, Anna Schmitt, Lindsay Dorr, and Lexi Lee, along with the seniors from the men's team, will be honored immediately following the conclusion of the women's game with a brief on-court ceremony.

Prior to the matchup against Augustana on Saturday, Kyrah Fredenburg will be recognized for becoming CSP's all-time leader in rebounds. The senior guard broke Dana Christopher's (1987-1991) previous record of 871 rebounds in Concordia's last home game against MSU Moorhead.

LAST TIME OUT
The Golden Bears hit the road for a pair of games last weekend, facing off against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. CSP picked up two wins on the weekend, the first road weekend sweep the Golden Bears have collected this season.

The Golden Bears used a huge second half to bury the Beavers last Friday, ending the game on a 45-16 burst. CSP shot 54.2% from the field, 52.9% from three, and 76.9% from the free throw line while also having a big advantage in rebounds (37-25) and points in the paint (38-22).

Anna Schmitt led the offensive charge for the Golden Bears, as the senior poured in 22 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor, including 3-3 from three. Schmitt also dished out four assists and was a +25 on the court in just 23 minutes of play.

Three other Golden Bears also posted double-digit scoring totals, as Lindsay Dorr, Lexi Lee, and Riley Wheatcraft each added 11 points. Dorr also secured her tenth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds and provided rim protection with three blocks. Lee made an efficient 5-8 from the floor with two steals while Wheatcraft matched Schmitt for the team lead with three triples.

The Golden Bears then traveled Crookston to take on the Golden Eagles, completing a comeback to claim a 67-59 victory. Trailing by four with seven minutes to play, Concordia finished the game on a 24-12 run. The Golden Bears were powered by 16 points in the fourth quarter from Schmitt.

Schmitt led all scorers by posting 28 points, her highest total of the season. The Waconia, Minnesota native was an efficient 9-15 from the floor and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Dorr collected another double-double for the Bears, as the senior center racked up 14 points and 14 rebounds. She was solid once again on the defensive end, swatting away three Golden Eagle shots. Lexi Lee added nine points, three assists, and three steals for CSP.

WAYNE STATE SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears are 20-22 against Wayne State in the all-time series history. The Wildcats have won four of the last five games in the matchups between the two teams. When playing at the Gangelhoff Center, the teams have been evenly matched, with each program winning 10 games.

LAST TIME AGAINST WSC
The Golden Bears played Wayne State just a few weekends ago, with the Wildcats picking up a 71-49 win. A day after shooting their highest percentage of the year against Augustana (54.7%), CSP shot 25.7% from the floor against Wayne State. The Golden Bears trailed the entire game, falling further behind in the third and fourth quarters with a couple of big runs from the Wildcats.

Lindsay Dorr led the Golden Bears with 18 points and 10 rebounds, collecting her eighth double-double of the season. The senior center also added two blocks and two steals for CSP. Anna Schmitt was the only other Golden Bear in double digits, posting 13 points on 6-13 shooting while also contributing seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Erin Norling leads Wayne State in scoring, ranking sixth in the conference in 15.1 points per game. Norling also ranks seventh in the NSIC in 1.8 steals per game and ninth in field goal percentage at 41.7%.

Brittany Bongartz is second in on the team in scoring (12.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg) and first in shooting percentage (45.4%) and blocks (1.29 bpg). The sophomore averaged 16.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game last weekend.

Wayne State moves the ball well on offense, ranking third in the conference with 15.1 assists per game. The Wildcats are also sixth in the NSIC in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 1.0.

After defeating the Golden Bears on January 28th, the Wildcats have gone winless. Wayne State has dropped four straight, all against NSIC North opponents.

AUGUSTANA SERIES HISTORY
The Golden Bears are 12-16 all time against the Vikings, though Augie has won six of the last eight matchups. CSP has had much more success against Augustana on their home court, with a 7-3 record against the Vikings at the Gangelhoff Center.

LAST TIME AGAINST AUGIE
In the last meeting between the Golden Bears and Augustana, CSP traveled to Sioux Falls and came out with a 75-55 victory. Prior to that matchup, Concordia and Augie were tied for atop the NSIC, with the Golden Bears' win giving them sole possession of first place.

The Golden Bears shot their highest percentage of the season in that matchup, hitting 54.7% of their shots from the field as well as knocking down 47.6% of their three-point attempts. CSP also hit 12 shots in a row from the field from late in the third quarter to midway through the fourth.

Anna Schmitt led all scorers, netting 23 points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds. Fellow seniors Lindsay Dorr and Lexi Lee also were major contributors in the scoring department, as Lee dropped in a career-high 18 points on 6-9 shooting (4-7 from three) while Dorr posted 15 points on 7-14 shooting from the field.

CSP used a big second half to defeat the Vikings, as they outscored Augie by 15 points in the final 20 minutes of play. The Golden Bears were nearly perfect from downtown in the second half, hitting seven of eight three-point attempts.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
The Vikings have a quartet of players averaging double digits, including senior center Shelby Selland (13.0 ppg), senior guard Lynsey Prosser (12.8 ppg), redshirt freshman guard Vishe' Rabb (11.1 ppg), and junior guard Abby Hora (10.8 ppg). Selland is shooting an efficient 56.6% from, while Prosser and Hora are two of the better facilitators in the NSIC at 3.7 and 3.5 assists per game, respectively.

After beginning the conference season 6-0, the Vikings have gone just 5-7 in their last 12 games, including losing their last three contests. However, they are still just two games behind the Golden Bears for first place in the NSIC South.

Augie is one of the highest scoring teams in the NSIC, averaging 70.9 points per game in conference play (2nd NSIC).  The Vikings have the fastest pace in the league, as their contests produce the most attempted total shots per game.

Augustana relies heavily on the three point shot, as they have attempted and made the most in the conference. However, they do rank 11th in the conference in NSIC play with a three-point percentage of 31.5%.

KEY STATS
The Golden Bears have played their best basketball this season at the Gangelhoff Center, where they are 11-1. CSP suffered their first loss at home in their last matchup in St. Paul, falling 63-58 to MSU Moorhead in overtime.

There have been three main keys to winning this season for the Golden Bears. When outshooting an opponent CSP is 14-1, which is also their mark when outrebounding the competition. The Golden Bears are 17-1 when making five or more three-point shots in a game.

Anna Schmitt has been heating up lately, increasing her scoring totals in each of her last four games. The senior guard is averaging 19.8 points per game in her last six contests and is now just 74 points away from breaking the school scoring record, which is currently held by Anika Whiting (1982 points, 2011-2015).

The Golden Bears have a duo of players who have hit the glass hard this year, as both Lindsay Dorr and Kyrah Fredenburg rank inside the top five in the NSIC in rebounds per game.
