GREENWOOD, Ind. - Despite having the most successful season in program history, the #20 Golden Bears soccer team has also been very successful in the classroom. For this first since 2015
Hannah Pavek and
Haleigh Bares have been selected to the 2019 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team selected by CoSIDA for their performance on the soccer field and in the classroom.
Rachel Gratz was the last Golden Bear soccer player to earn this honor back in 2015, she had a 3.80 GPA and majored in Biology. Nine of the eleven honorees are from the NSIC with Concordia having two players selected, Wayne State with three, Minnesota State with two and Bemidji State and Augustana with one player selected.
The 2019 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Hannah Pavek has been a staple in the Golden Bears outside back line, she is one of the reasons that the Golden Bears have a program record 13 shutouts this season and a NSIC leading .47 goals against average. Pavek has played in all 17 games for the Golden Bears and have started in 16 of them, she has one goal and a career high four assists for six points on the season. Along with her success, Pavek has accumulated a 3.98 GPA while getting her degree in Biology in her senior year here at Concordia-St. Paul.
Haleigh Bares has also had a very successful season for the Golden Bears. Holding that defensive midfield position, Bares has played in 17 games and has started in 16 of them. Bares has also put up some very impressive offensive numbers for her position, posting a career high two goals this season with one assist for five points while putting up 16 shots with seven on net. Bares has accumulated a 3.97 GPA in here junior year and is also majoring in Biology at Concordia. Paul.
Pavek and Bares will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot and the honorees will be announced in early December.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
