ST. PAUL, Minn. – In their first home game of the regular season, the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (1-2) fell to Parkside (2-1) 88-75 at the Gangelhoff Center on Saturday night.
Sophomore guard
Meghan DuBois led four Golden Bears in double-figures with 19 points, adding seven rebounds, three assists and three steals while clocking 38 minutes.
Alyssa Nelson led the Rangers with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Parkside buried 15 three-pointers at a .625 clip (15-24), making 8-of-10 in the second half to run away with the game late.
The game featured numerous twists and turns with four ties and eight lead changes with Concordia clawing back from a pair of 9-point deficits in the first half, using an early second quarter 7-0 run to narrow the margin to two, 29-27 nearing the midway point of the second quarter. Just before halftime,
Riley Wheatcraft converted in the paint for CSP's first lead, 40-39 before heading into the break down one (41-40).
Wheatcraft finished with 15 points including a pair of late three-pointers. Concordia finished 9-of-19 (.474) from the arc on the night.
The third quarter was the tightest as the teams jostled for the upper hand with three ties and six lead changes. It seemed as if Concordia had grabbed the momentum late in the quarter with a 10-3 spurt for a 58-54 lead with 3:26 to play, and continued to maintain its slim four point edge with under two minutes to play in the quarter.
Parkside finished the quarter strong with five straight points for a 63-62 lead and they didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the night. It was the start of a 20-1 run to give Parkside a 78-63 lead with 5:16 to play in the game, and they led CSP by as many as 18 points (87-69) in the final minute.
Joining DuBois and Wheatcraft in double-figures,
Danielle Schaub also put up 15 points with five rebounds and made 3-of-6 from three.
Sidney Wentland added 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds and five assists.
She was one of five Rangers in double-figures with Claire Jakatis contributing 18 points, hitting four three pointers along with three blocked shots.
