HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team hit the road this weekend for a face off against Michigan Tech at the Student Development Complex in Houghton, Michigan. Following the Friday evening game, the Golden Bears improve their record to 2-2 after a 65-59 victory over the Huskies.
Michigan Tech came into the game with a 2-3 record and faced three NSIC teams in their first five games of the season. The Huskies fell to St. Cloud State and #4 MSU Moorhead and earned the victory over Minnesota State – Mankato. The game against the Golden Bears marked the 11
th meeting between the two squads and CSP's first win over MTU since 2015.
The first quarter of tonight's match up started slow for the Golden Bears, putting in a single free throw in the first minute and then allowing the Huskies to go on a 7-0 run. Michigan Tech lead the quarter 18-10 while sophomore
Sydney Schultz dominated for CSP as she scored seven of their 10 points. Schultz finished the half with nine points and four rebounds while shooting 100% from the field.
The Golden Bears started with more momentum in the second quarter as senior forward
Cassidy Byrd drowned two three pointers within the first two minutes. A strong performance on the boards led to a scoring advantage of 16-8 in the second quarter for the Bears. After a trifecta of layups from the squad, freshman Jaydn Hanson tied it up in the last minute of the second quarter to make it 26-26 at the half.
Concordia kept it up in the second half and outscored Michigan Tech 39-33 to end on top and out-rebounded the Huskies 42 to 32. Schultz contributed massively on the boards grabbing 12 rebounds and 11 points for the sophomores first double-double.
Meghan DuBois led the team in scoring with 13 points and also had four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Sidney Wentland each put up 11 points and Wentland grabbed eight of the 42 rebounds for the Golden Bears. Hanson had a great night on the court as the guard finished with nine points and swooped six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
For the Huskies, Ellie Mackay was the powerful shooter scoring 17 points and shooting 50% from the field. Cassidy Trotter was right behind her with 13 points and was an aggressive part of MTU offense with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Golden Bears will stay on the road as they travel to Marquette for a game this Sunday, November 24
th against the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Wildcats will host the Bears with a 1-3 record and will tip-off at 1 p.m. central time. Live stats will be available at
