ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday, Concordia-St. Paul football (6-4 NSIC, 4-2 South) will honor its senior class while hosting Winona State (7-3 NSIC, 3-3 South) with a noon kickoff at Sea Foam Stadium.
The Golden Bears feature 22 seniors who have helped the program move from five wins in a three year span to an 11-10 record over the past two seasons entering Saturday's tilt with Winona State. After a three-win improvement last season, this year's seniors have taken it up a notch to a 6-4 record, guaranteed winning season and playing for a seven win campaign. Further, the Golden Bears have protected their home turf with a 4-1 record at Sea Foam Stadium in 2019.
Saturday's game has an expected high of 41 degrees with cloudy skies and SSE winds at 10-20 miles per hour.
Last week, the Golden Bears picked up a victory while competing in the 500th game in program history and the 200th Northern Sun league game since joining the NSIC in 1999. Concordia established a college football program 50 years ago in 1969, and joined the NSIC 20 years ago. The 24-14 win over SMSU was Concordia's 19th winning season overall, ninth at the Division II level and fifth under head coach
Shannon Currier, now in his eighth total year running the program (2000-03 & 2016-present).

SERIES HISTORY: WINONA STATE 17, CONCORDIA 4
The Warriors have won the last four meetings with Concordia after the Golden Bears snagged back-to-back wins in 2013 and 2014. Prior to that, CSP's two victories came during its NSIC Championship seasons in 2003 and 2005.
Concordia is 1-7 against Winona State at home, and 0-4 against the Warriors at Sea Foam Stadium, last hosting the Warriors in 2017, a 28-10 loss with WSU ranked #13 in the country at the time.
Currier holds a 1-6 career record against WSU, is 0-1 at Sea Foam Stadium against the Warriors and 1-2 against WSU in St. Paul with the 23-20 overtime win in 2003 at Griffin Stadium helping secure the program's first NSIC title.
LAST MEETING, 2018: WINONA STATE 24, CSP 20
Last year in the season finale in Winona, the Golden Bears fell 24-20 on the road. Concordia led 20-17 with the ball in WSU territory but couldn't convert a 4th-and-2, getting sacked at the WSU 47 yard line. With 36 seconds to play in the game, WSU scored the go-ahead TD on 3rd-and-goal from the 8-yard line.
Trailing 14-0 late in the second quarter,
Marcus Haskins had his first of two INTs to stop Warrior scoring threats. Quarterback
Maxon Hutton converted a 10-play, 82-yard drive with an 11-yard TD strike to
Jake Shepley with 32 seconds left before the break.
A sack by
Chris Garrett in the half's closing seconds was his first of 3.5 on the day and the single-season record breaking sack. He finished the year with 16.5 sacks.
Hutton added a 22-yard TD to
MJ Williams to take CSP's first lead late in the third quarter as the defense continued halting the Warriors on their home field.
Jonas Schenderlein added a 56-yard field goal with 12:19 to play to put CSP ahead 20-17. It was Schenderlein's school record tying 42nd career field goal made and extended his record of 50-plus yard field goals to 10.
Hutton finished the game 16-of-32 for 153 yards and two TD passes, adding 23-114 on the ground. But he was sacked three times and intercepted five times by the Warriors.
