BISMARCK, N.D. – It was a defensive battle as the Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (7-0-2, 4-0-2 NSIC) battled to a 0-0 tie with UMary (4-1-2, 2-1-2 NSIC). The Golden Bears still remain undefeated as they recorded their seventh shutout of the season.
This snapped the Bears four game winning streak as CSP is now 3-12-2 all time versus UMary. The Golden Bears defeated Minot State 5-0 on Friday night, earning their first victory in program history over Minot State and their fourth straight win. CSP freshman
Katie Anderson had a career game, scoring two goals and also had an assist in the blowout victory in Minot North Dakota.
The first half was filled with offensive for the Golden Bears as they had the wind on their back for the first 45 minutes. They outshot the Marauders 11-1 while putting six shots on net and held UMary to zero shots on goal. CSP also had four corner kicks in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net as UMary's keeper, Madisyn Waltman saved all six shots she faced, keeping the Bears scoreless in the first half. Patrice Martin had the lone shot in the first half for the Marauders.
Leah Johnson led the shooting gallery for CSP, as she had five shots and two on goal, senior defender Alexa Hepner also had two shots on net and her defensive partner
Hannah Pavek also put a shot on net for the Golden Bears.
Jena Berkland got in on the action and put a shot on goal for the Golden Bears. Senior keeper
Jordyn Clark did not see a ton of action in the first 45 minutes as the only shot she faced missed the net.
In the second half, the Golden Bears had to face the wind and the defense and
Jordyn Clark were tested as UMary had six shots with three on goal. The Golden Bears were held to just two shots and one on the net.
Katie Anderson had the only shot on goal for CSP in the 76
th minute, it was stopped by Waltman and the game would head into overtime after 90 minutes of play.
The first overtime was dominated by Concordia as they outshot UMary 2-1 and also put two shots on goal. Senior defender
Hannah Pavek tried to win it for the Bears in the 94
th minute as she shot low, but Madisyn Waltman made the save to keep the game alive. Two minutes later,
Emily Boyer tried to score the game winner for CSP as she went up high on Waltman, but she was denied, and the game would head into double overtime.
In the second overtime the Golden Bears were able to put one shot on net as
Jena Berkland tried to finish the game off early in the second overtime with a chance in the 104
th minute of play. Berkland tried to go left side on the ground but it was saved by s sprawling Madisyn Waltman. That would be CSP's only chance in overtime as they held the Marauders to zero shots in the second overtime and the game would end in a 0-0 tie.
Jordyn Clark played all 110 minutes for the Golden Bears, making three saves and earning her sixth shutout of the season (6.1) and her 11
th of her career (11.2). Madisyn Waltman had a career game for the Marauders as she played 110 minutes and made 10 saves on the day.
Concordia dominated in shots as they outshot UMary 16-8, CSP put 10 shots on goal and held the Marauders to just three shots on net. The Bears had five corner kicks in this game and the Marauders had three.
Leah Johnson led the offense for the Golden Bears as she took six shots in the game and had two on goal.
Hannah Pavek, Alexa Hepner and
Jena Berkland each had two shots on goal in this game.
Katie Anderson also had two shots with one of them finding its way on goal. Sidney Burrell, Malia Brudvik and Patricia Martin each had a shot on goal for the Marauders.

Steve Bellis commented on his team's performance, "CSP battled hard against some tough weather conditions and a very direct side. We were a little unfortunate not to take all three points, but we will take many positives from this weekend."
The Golden Bears will return home next weekend for Concordia-St. Paul's homecoming weekend! The first place Bears will take on the University of Sioux Falls on Friday at 7 p.m. The Golden Bears will then host Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be held at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul.
