Four first half goals lead to a 5-0 victory for the Golden Bears

An explosive first half and a two goal game from Katie Anderson leads CSP to victory

MINOT, N.D. – The Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (7-0-1, 4-0-1 NSIC) continued their winning streak with a 5-0 win over Minot State (1-7, 1-4 NSIC). The Golden Bears had four goals in the first half to help lead them to victory.
 
The Golden Bears earned their first ever career victory over Minot State. The series is now 7-1 in favor of the Beavers, the last fourth games ended in a 1-0 score. This was the first ever multi score game the Golden Bears had over the Beavers. This was the Bears' fourth straight victory, as they defeated both St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth at home last weekend, defeating them 1-0 in both contests. 

The first half was filled with offensive for the Golden Bears, starting with a goal by senior defender Hannah Pavek in the 17th minute, she was assisted by Cayla Renwick. This was Pavek's first goal of the season and the third of her career, this was Renwick's first assist of the season and the second of her career. A minute later the Golden Bears struck again, this time it was freshman attacker Nikki Anderson scoring on a pass from Emily Boyer. This was Anderson's team leading fourth goal of the season and Boyer's first assist of the season and the first of her career. Freshman, Katie Anderson scored the Bears third goal of the half and her first of her career in 36th minute on a ball from Hannah Pedersen. Four minutes later CSP went up 4-0 on another goal from Katie Anderson, she was unassisted on the goal.

The Golden Bears out shot the Beavers in the first half, 12-1. The Bears also had eight corner kicks on net. CSP keeper Jordyn Clark saw one shot and made the save. It would be the only shot on net she would see the entire game.

In the second half, the Golden Bears continued their dominance as they out shot the Beavers 9-3. Senior forward Leah Johnson scored the fifth and final goal of the game in the 66th minute to make it 5-0. She was assisted by Katie Anderson, this was Anderson's first assist of the game and Johnson's fourth goal of the season, tying her with Nikki Anderson for first on the team in goals. In the end, Concordia out shot Minot State 21-4, putting 14 shots on net and held the Beavers to just one shot on goal.
 
Nikki Anderson led the offense with four shots while putting three on net. Jackie Ehlert, Leah Johnson and Sophie Pawlyshyn each had three shots and Katie Anderson had two shots during the game. Jordyn Clark started the game and played 78 minutes while making one save and Sarah Golemme made her first ever career appearance in the second half, playing 11 minutes. The Golden Bears earned their seventh victory of the season and their sixth shutout of the season.
 
Head coach Steve Bellis commented on his team's performance Friday night, "A comprehensive team performance and some sublime play tonight. It's a win we have long waited for vs Minot. I'm really happy for our team and for our upper classmen."
