The Golden Bears out-rebound the Auggies to win the first exhibition game

ST. PAUL, Minn. –
The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team finished their exhibition game against Augsburg on top, defeating the Auggies 77-72 at the Gangelhoff Center on Tuesday night.

The Golden Bears took off early in the game leading the Eagles 22-10 in the first quarter. Junior Sidney Wentland finished a layup within the first two minutes of the game to put the first two points on the scoreboard for CSP. Wentland ended the night with 12 points and eight rebounds. The dominator on the boards was junior guard Danielle Schaub as she snatched 10 defensive rebounds. Schaub was ambitious on drives and put 10 points on the scoreboard in addition to eight assists, coming up just shy of the triple-double.

Riley Wheatcraft was another powerful source on the court as she led with 17 points and was another major rebound contributor. The junior had three rebounds on offense and six on defense. Sophomore Meghan Dubois was right behind with 16 points, four rebounds, and three steals. The paint is strong for the Bears as they out-rebounded Augsburg 55-29 throughout the whole game.

Going into the second half, the Bears were ahead by 10 before the Auggies brought it back within four points in the fourth quarter. Sharpshooter for the Auggies, Tamira McLemore, scored 28 points for her team and was strong on the boards with 11 rebounds against the Golden Bears. CSP was able to outscore the Auggies 19-18 in the fourth quarter to walk away with a win.

The Golden Bears will face St. Kate's on November 4th for another exhibition game before they hit the road for their season opener on November 8th against Missouri Western and November 9th against Fort Hays State.
