ST. PAUL, Minn. – In the second exhibition game of the 2019-20 season, the Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team conquered St. Catherine's University with a 57-41 win on November 4
th at the Gangelhoff Center.
The Golden Bears started out hot and outscored the Wildcats 12-9 in the first quarter. The Wildcats brought it within three at the half after an even 15-15 battle in the second quarter, but CSP took advantage of the Wildcat turnovers to make it 27-24 going into the second half of the game. CSP had seven total steals in the first half and ended the night with six more. Junior guard
Danielle Schaub led the Bears with three steals and contributed seven assists to her teammates.
Concordia took off in the second half, playing hard defense and forcing 20 total turnovers by SCU and scoring 23 points off their mistakes. Freshman
Jadyn Hanson made her Golden Bear debut and was the top scorer for CSP, shooting 50% from the field and drowning a three pointer. The freshman guard was a strong communicator on the court and didn't turnover a single ball alongside her 10 points.
The Bears dynamic got stronger as the game went on, shooting 43.9% in the fourth quarter and 11 out of 12 players putting a point on the scoreboard. Sophomore
Sydney Schultz was strong on the boards with six points and six rebounds and junior
Ayla Lemke was the second leading scorer behind Hanson with nine points. Junior
Sidney Wentland made her mark on the court with eight points, two rebounds, and one assist.
This weekend the women will hit the road for the first regular season games of 2019. The Golden Bears will play in the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic at the Civic Center at Missouri Western State University on November 8
th and 9
th. The squad will go up against Missouri Western on Friday the 8
th at 5:30 pm and play at 2:00 pm on Saturday the 9
th against Fort Hays State, the number three ranked team in the D2SIDA Preseason Poll.
Concordia will return home on November 15
th for a non-conference match up against the Parkside Rangers for an 8:00 pm game at the Gangelhoff Center.
