Blow out victory earns Golden Bears 12th shutout of the season

Katie Anderson led CSP offense to a big victory in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The #16 Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (13-0-2, 10-0-2 NSIC) won 6-0 in a huge victory over Northern State (3-10-1, 1-9-1 NSIC) in Aberdeen on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Katie Anderson was the hero for the Golden Bears as she scored a hat trick to help lead CSP to a huge victory.
 
With this win CSP moves to 6-16-1 all time against Northern State, 4-10 in Aberdeen, and their first win over the Wolves since 2017. Concordia's shutout streak is now at five with 12 total shutouts on the 2019 season, they have now played 498 straight minutes of shutout soccer. Concordia now moves up to first place in the NSIC standings with Augustana falling to Bemidji State in overtime today. CSP has 32 conference points and Augustana has 31, Minnesota State is still in third place with 30 conference points and Bemidji State sits in fourth place with 28 points. 

 The Golden Bears got off to a dominant start in the first half, they outshot the Wolves 15-1 with a 11-1 shots on goal advantage as well. CSP had four corner kicks in the first half as well. It took six minutes for the Golden Bears to get onto the board as Emily Boyer scored on a corner kick from Hannah Pedersen to get the Golden Bears on the board early in the first half. This was Boyers first goal of the season and Hannah Pedersen's team leading ninth assist of the season. In the 20th minute of play Katie Anderson would score her first of three goals on a pass from Hannah Pedersen. Then In the 28th minute Hannah Pedersen decided to get in on the scoring action as she scored her fifth goal of the season unassisted. In the 34th minute Katie Anderson would strike again as she scored to make it 4-0 Golden Bears in the first half. With four minutes remaining in the first half Cayla Renwick's pass found Katie Anderson and she scored her third goal of the game in the 41st minute to make it 5-0 Golden Bears. Jordyn Clark made one save in the first half and the Wolves used three goalies in the first half as Haley Hillstrom played 21 minutes and made three saves while allowing two goals, Frederique Beens played 16 minutes making three saves and allowing two goals and Morgan Bury played the remaining eight minutes allowing one goal in the half. 
 
The second half was a little bit more equal as Concordia still outshot Northern 13-6 with an 8-4 margin in shots on goal, each team had two corner kicks in the second half as well. It wasn't until the 71st minute mark when Jessica Timpane scored an unassisted goal in the box to give Concordia a 6-0 lead which would end up being the final score of the game. This was Timpane's first career collegiate goal. Jordyn Clark played 76 minutes total, making five saves in the seven shots she faced to earn her 10th shut out of the season (10.2). Sarah Golemme played the final 14 minutes of the game as she was part of the shutout performance as well. 
 
The Golden Bears finished with 28 total shots with 19 on net, the defense held the wolves to just seven shots total with five on net. Nikki Anderson and Kaite Anderson led the offensive attack for the Golden Bears. They Each had six total shots with Nikki putting five of those on goal and Katie put four shots on goal. Leah Johnson had four shots while Jessica Timpane and Cayla Renwick each had two shots in this game. Eight other players had a shot in this game for the Golden Bears. 
 
Head coach Steve Bellis commented on his team's blowout victory, "A very strong offensive first half and some tremendous movement up top saw us create and score some great goals. Yet again a shut out for our team made the win feel even better. We know we've got another gear yet to go to. Go Bears!" 
 
The Golden Bears will return home to host Wayne State on Friday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Augustana for a huge NSIC showdown with the Vikings on Sunday. Both live stats and live stream will be available for both of these games next week.
