ST. PAUL, Minn. – The #15 Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (14-0-2, 11-0-2 NSIC) won their seventh game in a row and their sixth shutout in a row in a 1-0 victory over Wayne State (6-6-4, 6-5-2 NSIC) at home on a night where the Golden Bears honored their nine seniors.
With only two more regular season games remaining, the Golden Bears are still sitting in first place with 35 conference points. #19 Minnesota State sits in second place with 33 conference points and Augustana is in third with 31 points followed by Bemidji State (28) and UMary (23). The Golden Bears can guarantee an outright conference title with four points over their last two games or a victory over Minnesota State next Friday.
Concordia now owns a 14-8-2 all-time record against Wayne State and holds an 5-4 record when playing the Wildcats at Sea Foam Stadium. This was CSP's third straight win over WSC, winning 1-0 last year at Wayne. With this victory the Golden Bears recorded their program leading 13
th shut out of the season, extending their shut-out minute streak to 588.
In the first half the Golden Bears dominated with possession, having control of the ball 63% of the time during the first half. The Golden Bears also outshot the Wildcats with an 8-1 margin. CSP had two shots on net, first in the 10
th minute
Jena Berkland tried shoot it low but Wildcat keeper Rachel Grisham made the save. The Golden Bears had another scoring opportunity in the 19
th minute when
Katie Anderson tried to shoot through a line of Wildcat defenders, but it was saved by Grisham gliding to her left side. Wayne State's only shot came in the 17
th minute when Rylie Wehner shot the ball wide right.
After the seniors were honored at half time the Golden Bears came out flying in the second half, outshooting the Wildcats 9-2 while also having three corner kick opportunities in the second half. CSP's only shot on goal was a big one,
Katie Anderson took a pass from
Hannah Pedersen in the 70
th minute of play and blasted a shot from outside the box and on a line, drive found the left corner of the net to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead. This was Anderson's team leading seventh goal and Pedersen's NSIC leading 11
th assist. That was one of the best defenses in the nation would need as they allowed only three shots in this game with none on the net. With that tenacious defense and tremendous ball control, the Golden Bears cruised to 1-0 victory and their 14
th win of their undefeated season.
The Golden Bears put up a total of 17 shots in this game with three of them finding their way on the net.
Katie Anderson led the offense with five shots total and two on net.
Jena Berkland and
Jackie Ehlert each had three shots, Berkland had one on the net.
Leah Johnson recorded two shots and
Hannah Pavek,
Sammie Zgutowicz,
Emily Boyer and
Haleigh Bares each recorded a shot in this game as well.
Jordyn Clark recorded her 14 victory of the season, her 10
th shutout (10.3) of the season, while playing all 90 minutes facing three shots without recording a save. Rachel Grisham played all 90 minutes, facing 17 shots and making two saves while allowing only one goal, she is now 6-6-4 on the season.

Steve Bellis commented on his teams victory over Wayne State, "A game where we had to be patient and take our chances. Another outstanding defensive display gave us the platform for the win. Seniors responded on their night."
