#16 Golden Bears defeat the Dragons 3-0 in a historic victory

CSP sets all time wins record in program history in the win over MSUM

MOORHEAD, Minn. – It was an all-around team effort as the #16 Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (12-0-2, 9-0-2 NSIC) defeated MSU Moorhead (4-5-4, 2-5-3 NSIC) 3-0 on Friday afternoon. This win keeps the Golden Bears in second place in the NSIC standings. The Golden Bears are now 17-5-2 against the Dragons and have won the last 11 games in a row.
 
With this win Concordia sets their programs all time win's record with 12, they also have tied the program record of not allowing a shot in an entire game, first time since 2009. This the first time that the Golden Bears have ever kept a DII opponent shotless in an entire game. CSP kept Crookston to just one-shot last game and have not allowed a shot in 129 minutes of play. This Golden Bear squad also set a new program record for shutouts in a single season with 11, surpassing last year's team's record. CSP has not allowed a goal in four games, compiling a 408 minute shutout streak in that span. 
 
In the first half the Bears held a solid 5-0 shots advantage with four shots on net while holding the Dragons to zero shots throughout the first half.  CSP also had four corner kicks in the first half and MSUM had one corner kick opportunity. In the seventh minute of play Jackie Ehlert took a pass from Jena Berkland and made a few moves around some Dragon defenders and put it into the bottom right corner to put the Bears up 1-0 in the first half. This was Ehlert's second goal of the season and of her career. 
 
CSP was not done there as five minutes later Jackie Ehlert took a shot which was blocked by a Dragon defender and deflected out of bounds, setting up a Golden Bear corner kick. Hannah Pedersen took the corner kick and found Haleigh Bares in the box, Bares buried the ball into the right side of the net to put CSP up 2-0 in the 12th minute mark in the first half. This was Bares second goal of the season and Pedersen's team leading eighth assist on the year. Jordyn Clark did not face a shot in the first half for the Golden Bears and Kayleigh Sedlacek made two saves in the first half for the Dragons.
 
In the second half the Golden Bears kept up their dominance with four shots with two on goal while keeping the Dragons to zero shots. CSP also had three corner kick opportunities in the second half and the Dragons had none. In the 58th minute of play the Golden Bears had a corner kick that was served out of the box by a Dragon defender, Alexa Hepner blooped the ball back into the Dragons box and Jena Berkland finished it off with goal inrto the top left side of the net to put Concordia up 3-0. This was Berklands third goal on the season and Hepner's first assist of the season and of her Concordia career. 
 
Jordyn Clark played all 90 minutes without facing a shot while recording her 12th win of the season and her ninth shutout (9.2) of the season. Kayleigh Sedlacek played all 90 minutes and recording three saves in the 3-0 loss. 
 
The Golden Bears outshot the Dragons 9-0 in this game and edged them out with a 6-0 shots on goal mark. Senior defender Anna Haub led the offensive attack with four shots and three on net, Jena Berkland and Jackie Ehlert each had two shots with one on net and Haleigh Bares also recorded a shot in this game. 
 
Head coach Steve Bellis commented on his teams' historic victory, "A strong start set us up for a wonderful team performance. Nice to get some solid minutes from our underclassmen."
