#16 Golden Bears are back on the road to take on MSUM and NSU

Concordia will take on Moorhead and Northern as season winds down

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Heading into the last few games of the season, the #16 Concordia-St. Paul soccer team (11-0-2, 8-0-2 NSIC) will take on MSU Moorhead and Northern State on the road this upcoming weekend. Friday's contest with the Dragons is set for 3 p.m. and Sunday's game against the Wolves kicks off at 1 p.m.
 
The Golden Bears remain in second place with 26 conference points and a four-game winning streak. Augustana still remains in first place with a 9-0-1 conference record and 28 conference points. #21 Minnesota State sits in third place with an 8-2 conference record and 24 conference points. Bemidji State slides down to fourth place with a 7-2-1 conference record and 22 conference points. And UMary and St. Cloud State are tied for fifth place with a 5-2-2 record and 17 conference points.
 
The #16 Concordia-St. Paul soccer team's historic season continues as this Golden Bear squad tied last year's team's record of the most shutouts in a single season in program history with 10. With five games remaining the Golden Bears have a chance to break and set a new shutout record. CSP's 11-0-2 record surpasses last year's team's overall record of 10-6-3, this is the best record that the Golden Bears have ever had to this point of the season and the most win's under head coach Steve Bellis. The Golden Bears tie the 2006 team with most wins in program history with 11, that squad finished with an 11-11-1 overall record. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears went 2-0 this past weekend, facing off with the defending NSIC champions, Bemidji State on Friday night and then finishing with Minnesota Crookston on Sunday. It was a back and forth battle in the first half on Friday night against the Beavers as both teams put up eight shots in the first half. Sophomore defender Megan Dahl shot a deep ball on a free kick that was saved by a leaping Jordyn Clark in the 9th minute mark. Haleigh Bares had a scoring chance for the Golden Bears when she tried to go bottom left corner, but it was saved by the Beavers keeper Emma Riedi in the 17th minute of play. CSP took more control in the second half, outshooting BSU 10-3 in the second half and 18-11 overall in the game. The Golden Bears got on the board when Cayla Renwick took a corner kick and found Alexa Hepner in the box, Hepner headed the ball out of the air and bounced it into the left corner of the net to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute of play. CSP would hold on to win the game 1-0 and Jordyn Clark recorded the victory making four saves in this game. 
 
On Sunday the Golden Bears saw a historic game when they recorded 37 total shots and only giving up one shot against Minnesota Crookston in a 2-0 victory. Concordia recorded 23 shots in the first half and Haleigh Bares found the back of the net when she took a pass from Hannah Pedersen and buried a goal in the 16th minute mark. CSP kept up the pressure in the second half as they outshot the Golden Eagles 14-1. Sophie Pawlyshyn put the game away in the 82nd minute when she scored her first career collegiate goal on a tic-tac-toe pass from Hannah Pedersen and Jessica Timpane, this was Timpane's first ever collegiate assist of her career. Jordyn Clark played 82 minutes and faced one shot while making one save, Sarah Golemme came into the game in the back end of the second half to close out the shutout victory for the Golden Bears. 
 
MSU MOORHEAD SERIES HISTORY
When playing the Dragons, CSP holds a solid 16-5-2 record, and has won the last ten matchups in a row. The Bears are 7-3-2 when facing MSUM in Moorhead and have not lost to the Dragons on the road since October of 2008. Thirteen of the 22 games between these two teams have been decided by more than one goal, including three of their last five contests.
 
LAST MEETING VS MSUM
In last year's game, it took the majority of two halves to decide a winner. The Golden Bears held a dominant 18-3 advantage in shots, holding the Dragons to only one shot on goal throughout the entirety of regulation. CSP also took five corner kicks during the match, giving themselves even more opportunities. It was an aggressive style of play between both teams as there were 23 total fouls in this game. 
 
The Golden Bears would strike late in the second half as Jordan Rowan-Stafford capitalized on a free kick for CSP in the 86th minute of play, she went top right corner of the net to give Bears a 1-0 lead with four minutes remaining in regulation. The Golden Bears would hang on to win the game 1-0 and Emily Nelson recorded the victory and made one save in the shutout. 
 
ABOUT THE DRAGONS
MSU Moorhead is 4-4-4 on the year and 2-4-3 in conference play so far this season, they are currently sitting in eighth place in the NSIC standings with nine conference points. Their conference wins include wins over Minot State, and Wayne State. Most recently, the team defeated Wayne State 1-0 in Wayne, before falling 3-0 against Augustana.
 
The team has scored 10 goals this season, while allowing an average of .92 goals per game, allowing 11 total goals. Freshman Mackenzie Ickert leads the team with three goals and three assists for nine points. Jensen Odegaard and Maren Soupir each have two goals and three other players each have one goal. 
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek has gotten the majority of starts in net for the Dragons, recording 63 saves and an .887 save percentage on the year, which ranks fifth of any goalie in the NSIC. She has allowed only eight goals for a .81 goals against average which is ranked sixth in the NSIC. She has posted one shutout this season. 
 
NORTHERN STATE SERIES HISTORY
In their all-time series with the Wolves, the Bears hold a 5-18-1 record, and are 2-3 in their last five matchups. When the series started in 1999, Northern State won 12 of the first 14 games. The series has been a little more even since 2011, with each team winning four games. Concordia has a 2-10 record when playing the Wolves in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Concordia last won a game in Aberdeen on October 3rd, 2015. 
 
LAST MEETING VS NSU
The Bears lost 1-0 against the Wolves in their last meeting versus Northern State. Concordia's defense was solid throughout, allowing only two shots on goal and only five shots total for NSU. The offense also did its part, taking 18 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
 
The Wolves struck in the first half when Stephany Estrada took a set piece from Tori Thorpe and put it in past keeper Emily Nelson in the 26th minute of play. That would be all that Northern would need as the Wolves goalkeeper Jessica Otto shut the door making 10 saves in the shutout victory for Northern State. Brooke Salo led the offense for the Golden Bears as she had five shots with four on net.
 
ABOUT THE WOLVES
Northern State holds a 3-8-1 record, with a 1-7-1 record in the NSIC. They currently hold the 13th spot in conference standings, with four points. They have a new coaching staff this season, as Ryzard Gorski takes over the Wolves soccer program as head coach after spending two seasons as an assistant coach under Jim Stone at Bemidji State. Rachael Norton is the assistant coach for the Wolves, she is a recent graduate of Bemidji State where she became an All American and the programs all time leading scorer. The Wolves are most recently coming off a 0-1-1 weekend, losing 5-1 against Augustana, and then tying Wayne State 1-1.

The Wolves have scored nine goals this season, and have allowed 19 goals. Senior Stephany Estrada leads the team with two goals and one assist for five points. Sophomore Gaby Roman is tied with Estrada for the team lead with two goals. Shianne Rosselli leads the team with two assists, she has a goal and his second on the team with four points. Three other players have at least one goal, Vanessa Mejia is tied with Rosselli for the team lead in assists with two and six other players have at least one assist this season. 
 
Junior Morgan Bury has made eleven starts for Northern State in net, facing 145 shots and making 58 saves for a .773 save percentage and a 1.59 goals against average. She has recorded three shutouts this season.

KEY STATS
-Hannah Pedersen moved her team leading assist total up to seven after the two-assist game against Minnesota Crookston, she now leads the team with 15 points on the season.
-Leah Johnson is second on the team with 12 points, four goals and four assists. 
-Nikki Anderson still leads the team with five goals.
-Katie Anderson has three goals and Jena Berkland has two. 
-Seven other Golden Bears have at least one goal this season.
-Jordyn Clark is now 11-0-2 on the season with eight shutouts (8.2).
-Alexa Hepner scored her first Concordia career goal in a 1-0 victory over Bemidji State, Cayla Renwick recorded her second assist of the season and the third of her career.
-Hannah Pedersen's two assist game was the first of her career.
-Sophie Pawlyshyn's goal against Minnesota Crookston was her first collegiate goal of her career, and Jessica Timpane's assist was the first of her collegiate career.
-The 37 shots CSP put up against Crookston was the third most in program history and the most against a DII opponent's. 
-The one shot allowed against Crookston is the second lowest on record and the fewest since 2009 when that Golden Bear squad allowed zero shots in a 11-0 win over Robert Morris. 
-Concordia is third in the NSIC in total shots (243) and shots on goal (120).
-CSP ranks third in the NSIC in goals (25), assists (26), and points (72). 
-The Golden Bears rank second in the NSIC in goals against average with a .38.
